Man, oh man. I just hate discovering a film and becoming so interested in it - to find out that the DVD is OOP. Not only that but The Red Tent (1969) was released just almost 3 years ago on R1 dvd, around Fall '05.

My question is: has anyone heard anything about Paramount re-releasing this film? There is a Russian cut of the film which runs ~40 minutes longer than the international cut. It also has a different score composed by Aleksandr Zatsepin (Ennio Morricone composed the international cut).

Morricone's music is a beautiful experience to listen to, so when it comes down to it I plan on purchasing the OOP DVD of this highly under-seen film (about $20 on Amazon's marketplace); but I was just curious if anyone had read/heard anything regarding The Red Tent in any future releases?

(Apparently in Russia there is a region 0 release of that cut, although framed at 1.33:1)

I am not sure what OOP means? I own the Red Tent the video is enhanced for 16 x 9 TV's, the audio is Dolby digital 5.1 and the running time is 121 minutes. I hope this information is helpful.

The director does an excellent job of matching the quality of the movie film with the landscape inserts. Many beautiful shots of the North Pole are inserted throughout the movie to show the rugged terrain the individuals were stranded in. In otherwords, the picture quality is not as sharp as it could be to match the landscape shots. That is a good thing the movie would look strange if the film was much sharper that the landscape inserts.

Highly recommended. Great story, great acting and excellent video and audio.

But Amazon is not directly selling it, it's on their marketplace instead (and quite higher than $8-9?). The only site I could find it being sold directly was from tlavideo. However, I did order it from the marketplace and got a slightly used version. I do not regret the decision as I find the film and music fascinating.

And thank you to those who responded! I would still love to see a set of the International and Russian cuts together - however, very doubtful...
