Today, The Proud and Profane. One of the top box office draws of the 1950’s, William Holden started off his career at Paramount Pictures with a couple of uncredited appearances in Prison Farm (1938) and Million Dollar Legs (1939). His career – after a stint in the Army Air Force during WWII – really took off following the success of Sunset Blvd. (1950), culminating with his Best Actor Oscar victory for playing a prisoner of war suspected as a prison informant in Billy Wilder’s Stalag 17 (1953). When he made The Proud and Profane – reuniting with his director from The Country Girl (1954), George Seaton – Holden in the middle of the height of his popularity. Kino has licensed the movie from Paramount for its home video debut.
