Finally!

Hopefully the other remaining DreamWorks catalog films will follow.

Joseph: King of Dreams, The Road to El Dorado, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas...etc.

I haven't seen this film in what feels like forever. This is surprising and very welcome news.

I really hope that this is a harbinger of more catalog titles from Dreamworks; particularly the Aardman titles.

This and Antz are both turning 20 this year, so I would expect they are probably going to be designated as anniversary editions.

However, I hope we don't have to wait for the other missing DreamWorks films to hit major anniversaries in order to get them. Put them out sooner, please and thank you, Universal!

If artwork could make me less excited to get a Blu-ray, The Prince of Egypt would probably do it.

Of course, obviously I'm still planning to get it. But seriously, what an eyesore.

Remember the awesome original DVD artwork?

Why couldn't they have just used that again?

I'm also surprised they're not billing this as a 20th Anniversary Edition. Since they waited long enough to put it out for that to be accurate, they might as well.

I was always surprised that Prince of Egypt didn't do better than it did at the box office. It's not without flaws, but it was a beautifully-animated film with great songs and some genuinely emotional moments. I saw it three times in its initial run, which is rare for me.

It made $101 million, which was pretty good for that time period, considering it wasn't a Disney/Pixar film and was only Dreamworks Animation's second release.

Yeah, but on a budget of $70 million and with the fairly massive publicity campaign (including three separate albums of music), it was a disappointment.

I agree, their choice is pretty lame. If they don't want to use the DVD artwork how about this?

Unfortunately, the picture quality of the blu-ray lives up to the cover artwork -- it's really bad. Muddy color, banding, and line work that is not sharp. Plus the print has all kinds of dust, dirt and scratching. Really sad to have to wait all these years for THIS.

^Sounds like DreamWorks lost the digital source files for this one in the 20 years since its sole dvd release.

Anyway since this thread is back I'll address this:

IIRC it was because no major fast food chain wanted to be associated with a bible movie that took away a lot of the marketing for this film.

Also DW spent a lot to market the film in the south...which stayed home and watched Ten Commandments instead.

I'm hoping for a major improvement for the 4k. But if Dreamworks threw out the original digital files (could they have been that careless in 1998?) I wonder if that be possible. Anyway, I'll wait for the reviews on the 4k before I buy.
