My God, is it really true that "The Polar Express" is not being released in 16x9?

    That can't be right--can it??

    Steve,

Are you referring to the DVDTalk review?

There are plenty of other reviews that say exactly the opoosite, including Colin's review at DVDMG.

Not sure what's going on-maybe some review copies were manufactured incorrectly.

Well, they got review copies ahead of time (perhaps the copy that person at DVDTalk received was manufactured incorrectly and 16X9 encoding wasn't enabled for that particular disc). Just because one review says it's non-anamorphic doesn't mean all the copies are going to be that way (those other two reviews claim the exact opposite). Hopefully.

Well, I have seen it listed as anamorphic at a couple of different retailers, so maybe my fear is unfounded. It just wouldn't make a lick of sense.

The DVDTalk reviewer just advised that she was wrong and her player wasn't setup correctly. She plans to revise her review accordingly.

It is indeed enhanced - I'm working on the HTF Review as we speak. It is terrific on both fronts (A & V). Hope to have the review posted in the next couple of days.

    Herb.

That's cool that she corrected her review, but in this day and age, if you have a high profile release (especially from a studio like WB), you should do the detective work before posting such a controversial assessment. I hope no pre-orders were cancelled.

On the other hand, in this day and age, you shouldn't be making DVD purchase choices based on technical information read in a single non-professional website review.

    ok,

    no previews.
    great picture in 2.35.
good sound, great train ones - my fave.
    NO distortion.
bit of the score sounds like a temp of Edward Scissorhands.
    lots of fantasy elements.
more entertaining than War of the Worlds!

time for the EDUKATORS and HAPPY ENDINGS.

    Damin,

I'm not saying I would, but others might. Either way, a bad judgment call on the reviewer's part.
