Hello Kind Gentlemen. I am setting up a college Dorm/ Apartment and I (my parents actually) bought a 32" Philips display with 720p resolution. I want to connect a desktop computer for internet, games, and video media. I connected a desktop from DVI to HDMI cable but the picture extends past the screen. There is no option to resize the image on the tv but if I use the video software to shrink the picture it becomes interpolated/ resampled and the text is hard to read. Also it won't even show a picture if the resolution is above 1280x720 even though the screen has a resolution of 1366x768. 1280 x 768 didn't work, 1360x768 didn't work, and the resolution (made with nVidia software) 1366x768 didn't work either. I got the same problem on two different desktop computers but when I connected the desktop to my friend's Sony 1080p it worked beautifully. I would appreciate some help. Thanks

Also I know HDMI transmits audio signal but a computer video card cant make audio. I want to play all the audio (from tv, computer, games etc) through a stereo amplifier without constantly having to switch around cables

Are you sure there are no HSIZE and VSIZE controls, possibly in a service menu? Seems like you have too much overscan.

Now if the TV is still under warranty and these controls exist but behind the back cover, you may have to live with the limitation.

Any stereo amp. should have different inputs for video game, TV, DVD player, etc. But a common problem is not enough inputs. You would then need to upgrade your entire amp. or (for less money) get audio switch boxes. This way you would not need to unplug and replug cables which can wear out the jacks. Do not use a "phono" input except for an old fashioned LP or 78 RPM turntable with magnetic pickup.

Finally, if your amp. doesn't accept HDMI inputs to extract the audio, you would need an HDMI to analog audio converter (I don't know where to buy these) for those sources with only HDMI audio/video outputs. Use an HDMI switch box if you have more than one HDMI source but only one HDMI to analog converter. Most folks wishing to use optical audio end up upgrading to an amp. (or receiver) that accepts optical audio.

Thanks Allan for IDing the problem as overscan. I used the ATI utility to make a faux lower resolution while still outputing 720p. It uses 1216 x 676 to fill the whole screen. The problem is that the screen is still scaling and interpolating that signal so it isnt very sharp. Is there any way to get the screen to display the image smaller or else do its proper resolution 1366x768?

Also thanks on the amp advice as well. Now I just need to figure out how to get the sound from the coax cable into it. My sanity is almost gone.

I am having new problems of the screen missing the colors (etc green) by a few pixels so I am going to try switching to analog. I would like to buy a Radeon HD3850 AGP and am wondering if it will be able to output 720p by component and what quality I can expect vs hdmi.
