Can anyone confirm that JC didn't direct and shoot the opening scene where the humans are fighting Skynet robots, I heard it was done by some guy who specialises in action sequences? or the second unit director or something?

It depends. Did he do the entire sequence? Probably not. Large action scenes (especially if they don't have any of the main talent) have shots performed by stunt coordinators or second unit directors. So much of it is probably done by the second unit director per Cameron's storyboards. Don't doubt for a second that he didn't conceive, plan and storyboard that scene. That movie had a tremendous time crunch. I would guess that the scenes with John Connor was done by Cameron, the car stunts by the Stunt coordinator and the t-800 stuff by someone at Winston (maybe Winston himself).
