Gillette should have just posted The Onion's article as a press release from the company.

Anyone have that SNL parody of the Mach 3 with about 10 blades?

The battery powers a motor tha induces a vibration in the blade, which actually does seem to produce a closer shave. I have a Mach-3 Turbo and really have found the result to be better than a "non-powered" blade and infinitely better than any electric shaver I've wasted my time and money on.

    Regards,

    Joe

I think it was 17 blades- I just thought of that, too.

Makes me wonder how people ever survived with single-blade razors.

Was it SNL that did the parody or Mad TV? Or both? I recall it being really gross when he was done shaving with blood and gore all over the razor! Ewww!

I notice in the real article that they are spacing the blades 30% closer together. Hmmm...I think that will be worse. I find with a Mach 3 that the whiskers jam up the blades really, really fast as they don't fit through the spaces between the blades. But what the heck do I know?

Why not just unleash a laser powered unit that frys the stuff off of your face? Maybe a mini-light sabre or something?

Just how close of a shave do we need? Is this really a problem? I have a Mach3 as well and it shaves the hair, just like all the other razors on the market. Do we really care if Brand A shaves the hair .03mm shorter than Brand B?

My shave lasts me through the day just fine. If I'm lazy I make it last two days. The 5 o'clock shadow isn't too bad. At least not bad enough that I need two more blades.[IMG]

SNL definitely did it, since I saw it & don't watch the other show (who might have also done it).

You can get laser hair removal on your face if you never want to shave again.

Don't forget, out of the 17 blades, some were phantom blades. [IMG]

Well, I haven't been willing to pony up for a three blade unit, so this may pass me by. But for all those who need it, have fun! (I do an electro-shave, followed by a two-blade shave once I hop in the shower... The blade seems to last for months - but I am pretty lightly haired and prob couldn't have a beard if I wanted one. I just get scruffy... And who asked for these details??? [IMG]

I dunno, but HTF shaving threads get pretty hairy.

In addition to this being overkill, it's interesting how Gillette and Schick never discontinue older (and I mean really old) models. Heck, you can still buy the Gillette Atra. It just shows how aggressive (or desperate) these companies are in trying to maintain marketshare on both ends of the spectrum.

Why waste money on all these blades? One or two shaves and any of my razors is toast. Frankly, the single blades work best, they don't' clog as much.

Two different times I have heard a sports caster quote an article from the Onion as if it were real. The DJs then carried on about it like it had really happened.

They honestly had no clue what the Onion was!

It was the funniest thing I had heard from that station, which doesn't say much for the DJs.

Hey, I still use an Atra. Works great! I wish Shick would have never discontinued the old Slim Twin, that was the best shave I ever got, and they discontinued it very quickly. I won't use disposables, I want to minimize trash by just replacing the heads.
