The more I think about Jaws, the more I believe it is the greatest summer film ever made and my favorite Spielberg film.

I watch it every summer and it never gets old. It’s still as thrilling and exciting as the first time I saw it in the summer of 1975.

I’m actually showing it this Wednesday night in my backyard on a 100” screen with family and friends and everyone is excited.

I think if this film was rereleased in theaters in IMAX it would be a huge success even today.

Bruce Lives!!;)

Yup. Right around that time. Probably gonna cost me about $2500 for the week. In Edgartown.
Another option is to stay on the mainland and take the ferry in. I spent ⅔ of that staying in a hotel in Hyannis for a week, just last month. But if you want more than just a day in MV, that adds its own costs in both time and money.

Regardless of where you stay: the Lookout Tavern in Oak Bluffs, basically across the street from the OB pier, really does have the best Lobster Roll!

i was looking on AirBnB and almost everything I saw as going to. North of 2500 for a week. Reminded me of Fire Island and Hampton pricing.

I learned recently that air bnb prices are negotiable. Gonna see how well I do.

I wouldn't expect much wiggle room. They must know how popular the area will be at that time. If I owned a property, I wouldn't be discounting anything at this point.

Is there a specific Jaws Week with events planned to celebrate the anniversary in MV? Or are fans just going whenever next year and trusting the souvenir shops will have 50th anniversary t-shirts for sale?

It will certainly be around June 20, 2025. Jaws’ 50th anniversary of it’s premiere.

I watched this today with my kids, after literally years of trying to get them to watch it with me. They loved it. I haven't seen them this engaged by a movie in I don't know when. One of them actually screamed out loud at one point (when the head pops up in the damaged boat early in the film). He's 15.

I don't care what anyone says. It still holds up as well today as it did 49 years ago. It's a masterpiece. (Now maybe they won't doubt me next time I suggest a "masterpiece.")

JAWS star Richard Dreyfuss rushed to emergency surgery after event arrival

Tampa, FL - July 13, 2024: Fans of the iconic film JAWS were met with concerning news this weekend as Richard Dreyfuss, the star of the 1975 classic, had to undergo emergency surgery shortly after arriving at Shark Con. The 76-year-old actor was scheduled to participate in a series of events at the convention, including autograph signings and a special panel discussion about the making of JAWS.

Dreyfuss, who played marine biologist Matt Hooper in the Steven Spielberg blockbuster, shortly after his arrival in Tampa, Dreyfuss began to feel unwell and emergency medical personnel were quickly summoned and decided to transport him to Tampa General Hospital for further evaluation.

Another vacation comment :)

Take cash

I was surprised how many places were cash only. And many more places add a 3% surcharge for credit cards. I spent more cash that week than I have the past year.

Of course, ATMs are easy to find so, you don't have to necessarily carry a roll C-notes on you at all time. :D

You’re going to start seeing more and more of that everywhere, as the regulation that forbid charging different prices based on payment method was amended to allow businesses to do so as long as it’s clearly disclosed at point of purchase. I saw that on a recent trip to Vegas with their cabs and I see it at most of the restaurants I visit in NY now.

There’s also been speculation that as that continues, and as credit card processing fees get capped as part of similar regulation, that credit card companies will have less incentive to offer lucrative reward programs and the amount of bonus points offered and what they can be used for will be curtailed.

You probably got a sneak preview of your future spending patterns :)

I just got back from a restaurant charging 3.8%. I paid cash. 🤪

Yup. The credit card companies charge about 4% to restaurants, they’re now allowed to pass that on to consumers (which didn’t used to be the case), can’t say I blame them. But if the credit card companies aren’t going to get a 4% bonus on every dollar you spend anymore by customers opting for cash, they’re gonna stop giving you bonus points eventually too.

For places in more remote locations like Martha’s Vineyard the cost of doing business is already so high that customers opting for cash probably is very helpful to them.

I appreciate the position those businesses are in and I appreciate the transparency but on some level for the consumer it’s another bummer cause it’s another thing for us to have to keep track of instead of the price being displayed just being the price.
