Well, I have the crappy original release, but I would like nothing more than to hear that a SE is coming out. I was thrilled with the news about the GoodFellas SE and would be equally happy if Casino follows close behind.

Couldn't agree with you more. Of course the SE edition of GoodFellas was originally slated to get released in 2001...
Let's hope the SE of Casino isn't going to take as long.

Between the Raging Bull and Goodfellas horror stories I really have a bad feeling about us seeing Casino anytime soon with SE treatment. Looks like I'm going to Best Buy to spend a ridiculous amount of cash ($23!) for a barebones subpar disc. Dammit.

EDIT: Just found it at Overstock.com for $10.99 + only $1.40 for shipping. If anyone wants it, that's an AMAZING price.

I think someone mentioned a while ago that Casino was part of Wal-Mart's bargain bin DVDs which sell for about $5-$6. I still don't think the current DVD is worth getting unless you are only mildly interested and don't mind the sub par transfer and lack of any special features.
For anyone else, I'd recommend waiting on a new release even if it takes a while for it to come out.

Definately hoping that this means an SE is on the horizon. It would be dumb of Universal not to get on the ball on this one, with W.B. doing a bunch of Scorcese SEs

Why would Universal put this on moratorium, unless they were producing a Special Edition?
Now... Universal, if you be so good to take the NON-anamorphic, low-bitrate transfer DVD of The Thing of the shelves and produce a new high-def transfer with DTS, I would one be a happy materialist! ;)

And while Universal is at it, they should also upgrade The Sting and The Deer Hunter .
And how about putting out a Billy Wilder box set as well ?
And Lubitsch ? If we can get Ma and Pa Kettle and Francis The Talking Mule flicks, at the very least we should be able to get The Major and the Minor and an upgraded Lost Weekend !

I recently just picked up 50 laserdiscs and a LD player for 35 dollars at a garage sale! You heard me! 35 bucks! And there are some great movies in here as well! My favorite of all of them, however, is CASINO. A personal favorite which I never picked up on DVD because of its high price and no special features. I'm watching the LD right now and it's okay. Isthe DVD any better at all? Obviously the sound is better. 2 vs. 5.1, the DVD wins. Also I found the DVD online brand new for 12 bucks...I might just go and grab it because thats so cheap compared to B&M stores (25 dollar range!!). Is it worth it to upgrade over the LD, or should I wait for an eventual special edition?

The only thing that makes the DVD better aside from the 5.1 is no flipping sides, other than that nothing. The picture quality is not that great I think the Lasedisc looks better. I would say hold off until an eventual re-release.

I'd bet that the PCM track via prologic 2 beats the Dolby digital on the DVD. Then of course there's the DTS laserdisc...

No, yours is apparently the standard PCM laserdisc. There is a seperate DTS laserdisc release.

I was starting to think these LD looks better than 16x9 enhanced DVD and matrixed surround is better 5.1 discreet posts were a thing of the past.
Nice to see it return once in awhile. ;)
Oh, how I loved watching Casino on LD when it was first release.
Oh, how I loved selling it off when the magnificent DVD came out (same day as Apollo 13 for those old timers).
