I don't regret getting the Deluxe edition either. STID isn't my favorite film in the franchise, but I would have regretted if I had the money and didn't complete my collection. The only one I need is '09...and that's going to be hard to track down now.Sent from my iPhone using HTF

It's funny, I loved Into Darkness the first time I saw it, and maybe I just ran it into the ground seeing it so many times in IMAX, but I don't think as highly of it as I did at first. I still like it, and there's some really cool stuff in there, but there's also some stuff that's just like treading water and not moving the characters of plot forward. The sense of enthusiasm and excitement from the 2009 film is missing somewhat. I don't regret getting the deluxe score..but I don't think I'd be terribly upset if I hadn't gotten it in time either. It hasn't worked out to be as much of a "must have" as the deluxe versions of Star Trek I, V and '09 were for me.
Good to know. I've decided to pass on the expanded score and the new trek compendium blu ray set for many of the reasons that you mention here.

Unless I'm way off, the intent is to release roughly one new score every quarter. I think STID should have been the Q3 release and I wonder what might be on tap for Q4.Sent from my iPhone using HTF

I'm 99% sure I'm passing on the Compendium Blu-ray. It's not complete - it doesn't include the film in its theatrical release format, which is 2.35:1/16x9 variable aspect ratio in 3D. They've now released it twice on Blu-ray, and yet, not once in the way it was designed, shot and released for in theaters. I don't know why more people aren't upset over the lack of 3D in the proper ratio. And it's not like Paramount is incapable of doing it -- their Transformers 4 Blu-ray that's coming out later this year will include the IMAX 3D version of that film, and it's their first attempt at releasing it.

It's a real conundrum for me as a viewer -- my preferred formats for seeing films in theaters are in 3D and in IMAX. This movie was originally both, and it was glorious to behold as a visual wonder in that format. On video, though, I'm being forced to chose, "Do I watch it in my preferred format -- 3D -- in the wrong aspect ratio? Or do I watch it in a format that's less enjoyable for me -- 2D -- in the right ratio?" I don't think viewers should have been faced with that choice.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. And, if in 2016, they put out a version with the IMAX ratio in 3D, I'll probably be first in line to buy it.

In case anyone is missing any Trek (or other) scores from LaLaLand, they're running a 25% off sale on everything for the next week.

On a sidenote...I was kinda expecting to hear about the next expanded/etc. score by this point in the year...if there's another coming in 2014.

I know that LLL is working on some kind of release (single disc, best of, full season, tbd,) of music from Star Trek: Enterprise, with hopes that it could get sign-off for a release by Black Friday, or at least year's end.

That's music to my ears, Neil (see what I did there...music...scores...yeah, okay...I know...).

During my rewatch of the series, the music in S3 really stood out to me and I was really impressed after being down on Enterprise.

In case anyone missed it, LaLaLand is releasing a four disc set of Enterprise music today at noon Pacific Time. From the track listing, there's a good selection of music across all four seasons. I really want to pull the trigger on this and the Batman set today, but I might have to wait until Friday, aka payday.

Thanks Neil!

Nelson: I was sitting on Facebook at midnight Thanksgiving night waiting for the announcements. Fresh after refresh after refresh...it's the OCD in me that came out!

I stayed up to 11 pm last night importing the Enterprise set into iTunes and making sure the listing is up to snuff (for me). I haven't gotten to listen to it yet; I'm hoping to start this week. (I even snagged one of the autographed sets...)

One thing I noticed over on TrekCore is a tentative list of what is coming from LaLaLand in 2015:

Next Gen Collection Volume 2
Voyager Collection
Enterprise Collection Volume 2

It'll be nice to have more from Voyager, honestly. Outside of "Caretaker," there hasn't been anything devoted to the show. It also makes me wonder if there will be a fourth release next year. Maybe some more extended episode scores a la "Best of Both Worlds" and "Encounter at Farpoint"/"Arsenal of Freedom."

Cool news on the new trek releases.Wish I was more excited about the tv show music. Probably will pass on all of these after picking up all of the film score reissues.I'm really hoping la la land records obtains the rights to the James Bond scores.I'll probably spend the next few days listening to all of the trek film scores again. It's been a while for most of them.

I get the house to myself for a few days in a couple weeks - I think there's a good chance I'll take some inspiration from your idea and use some of that time to play the scores again too! I was already kinda thinking about cycling through the movies.

Agreed. It's been a while since I've watched a trek film.

At the very least, I've been dragging my heels with the Star Trek TNG Season 7 set (I could have finished watching all the episodes by now) because I want to try to stretch it to cover that period of house-aloneness. I have a tentative plan with myself to finish "All Good Things" around the time that I get the week to myself, so that I can segue right into the Next Gen movies. And watching all of those will probably make me want to watch the original cast movies afterwards.

Did I just publicly admit that I'm making advance plans to watch Star Trek movies home alone? :)
