Thought you might find this interesting: an edition of ABC's 20/20 from Thursday, Aug. 15, 1985, where one of the stories was a celebration of (at that time) America's 47,000,000 cats (also about America's cats and their owners); the story was named "Equal Time for Cats."

I had the dry food out all day, and put out wet food about 3 times a day while I sat a distance away. I did try the feeding from hand with treats, however, That is the only way Allie would come near me. She never liked getting petted and would duck, but she would at least bat at my hand. Huey was the most crazy about treats and would force his head into my fist if I was holding treats. He would purr and purr while being petted, but still hiss at me at other times. Riley wouldn't come near me even for treats so I had to place it near him and back away. I may have to try the wet food on spoon if I get other scared kitties.

All 3 were posted at the Humane Society about 10 days ago and all are no longer listed. I'm hoping they were all adopted.

The Society just got a new CEO this week after the previous one was forced to resign a while back. The staff said she had been having cats and dogs put down quickly for no reason. I don't really trust them. On "clear the shelter" day, I am very skeptical that the dog who was paraded out with his new owners to staff applause was really the last dog. They better not have put down a bunch to "clear the shelter" in their own way.

I really miss having the kitties around. I'll probably get another one or group in about a month.

I was hoping you'd have them longer than you did!

He was clearly halfway to domestication. He just didn't want to admit it. Got to keep up appearances for the sake of the other two!

I hope not. I've read that "no kill" shelters sometimes work with "kill" shelters, so the overall result is not quite what one might expect. There's also the question of what animals get the chance to be rescued by a shelter in the first place.

At a shelter where I adopted two of my cats, I once saw someone come in with a bunch of kittens. The staff took one look at them, determined that they had upper respiratory infections (maybe also fleas or mites), and turned them away. I'm not sure if vet bills were an issue, but I believe that the shelter was keen not to expose the kittens that they already had to the risk of catching a highly contagious upper respiratory disease. They weren't a large shelter at that time, so there wouldn't have been a place to hold the new kittens in isolation.

I've had quite a few kittens from the Humane Society with upper respiratory infections and others with conjunctivitis. I would wrap them like a burrito to give them their meds. I'm hoping that after the expense of the meds and spay/neuter, they will give them a good length of time to find a home.

I've recently been following several of the Facebook cat groups on Oahu. I may eventually help them out with fostering, although it seems that all expenses are out of pocket. I'm most concerned with having to find the kitty a home. I don't want to become too attached if they are with me for a while.

I read Jackson Galaxy's first book a while back and in it he had a few 'not so nice' things to say about no kill shelters. While I can't be sure it was all true (why would he make it up?) it certainly made me think about these shelters differently. Turning cats away that are at 'less adoptable' and therefor at risk of being put down is one of the tactics these shelters use to claim 'no kill'.

That cat-uccino seems to be indicating that you need to add more milk.

Please say hello to Simba. Simba and his siblings seem to be all alone in the world. His mommy disappeared so my wife agreed to rescue this one. He's fitting right in so far (except for the 3 am attacks on my feet  ).

    Congrats, David!

It looks like Simba hopes to grow up to be the HTF's next Fluffy Pumpkin!

(I love hauling out this picture whenever I have an excuse!)
