Let’s look at the double feature of The North Star and Armored Attack.
By the 1940’s, maverick producer Samuel Goldwyn had firmly established himself as one of the preeminent figures in the movie industry. After his initial film company – formed after leaving Paramount Pictures in 1916 – was merged with two other companies to become Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, he went out on his own to become an independent film producer; some of the most notable films made under his name and guidance in the 1930’s and 1940’s include Arrowsmith (1931), Dodsworth (1936), Dead End (1937), Wuthering Heights (1939), The Little Foxes (1941) and The Pride of the Yankees (1942). However, with World War II raging on, Goldwyn would produce what would become his most polarizing production, The North Star.
