During an interview, before the release of "The New World", Terrence Malick said for theatrical purposes he cut the film from 150 minutes to 135. For DVD their would be a 3 hour version released sometime after the theatrical cut.

I really like this movie but the current version is choppy. Christan Bale appears from nowhere as if he parachuted into the settlement from Rescue Dawn. Has anyone heard if and when the 3 hour version will be released? I'd settle for the 150 minute version just to smooth out the story.

Here's the article where the three hour cut is mentioned in the New York Times:

I think the 3 hour version was supposed to be released on dvd as a collector's edition at the same time as the theatrical cut but I have the feeling it may have been scrapped. I'd like to see a longer cut of The Thin Red Line too as quite a bit was cut from that film.

Sarah Green, the films producer, said a 150-min. cut would be released
on DVD March of 2007, but nothing happened. I bet Malick stopped it.
