the new garfield trailer!
Ahh!!!! My eyes, my precious eyes!! That really couldn't look worse.
It still looks awful.
looks much better then teaser.. you two are probably not garfield or cat fans?
that is your loss, not mine!
I love Garfield, but the first trailer was awful. Plus, if they don't include Lyman, it's not really a return to "the comic strip's roots."
they never had lyman in the cartoon.. lyman is gone from the comics. I think the movie will be fine without him.
OK, I was just able to see the new trailer. It's even worse than the first trailer. It doesn't appear anyone involved with the film has ever read a Garfield comic strip. Garfield barely likes to move at all, let alone run, dance, and fly through the air. The entire trailer is full of him running, jumping, and breaking out aerobic dance moves. WTF! And is that non-animated dog still supposed to be Odie?
Holy crap that was bad. I love Garfield, but this movie... God.
they only had a 60 million budget and only did garfield as cgi.. should have they done odie? perhaps.. but odie and the rest of the animals are real.. I have no problem with that.. they will probably have the personity of the characters.. that is the important thing. look at the spider-man movie. they made some minor changes of the look of the characters.. but still had the attitude of the characters they were suppose to play.
I've gotten over the fact that Garfield is the only character that is CGI, but he's a LAZY MOFO. That IS his personality.
the marketing people at fox feel they must intro garfield to new members and not the fans already.. you see alot of slapstick humor.. sometimes the movie is different then the previews.. look at spidey.. different tone.
wait and see.
The ONE part that felt like "true Garfield" to me was:
"Get it, Garfield!"
"Get it, JOHN"
That's the attitude that's made Garfield so freakishly popular. Why mess with it?
Yeah, that looks pretty craptacular (though I had to smile when Garfield splatted against the rear windshield in a salute to those 80's Stick-On things). But Lord am I sick of badly rendered CGI characters. With CGI capable of such mind-blowing feats as what we've seen in THE RETURN OF THE KING (and even as far back as JURASSIC PARK), I can't understand steps backwards like this. If your script calls for a fully-fleshed (so to speak) CGI character, spend the money to make it look right.
I hope to God the trailers for VAN HELSING were cut before all the CG renders were complete; have y'all seen the Werewolf in that thing? Looks like a Warner Bros cartoon.
its jon arbuckle.
The main problem here seems to be that Garfield is a cat, and he doesn't act cat-like as far as the attitude goes.
Meaning--he seems to be very playful and fun-loving. More like a Dog than anything.
Garfield doesn't like people. Or dogs. Or anyone else, really. Much like most cats. There's a wealth of comedy that can come from getting inside a Cat's head and looking out with the disinterested, nonchalantly destructive, snobbish and superior attitude cats seem to have. I mean, in my paper, Garfield and Get Fuzzy sit RIGHT NEXT to each other. One gets it right. One is tired as hell.
You've got possibly the greatest living smartass alive voicing your main character, and it seems all the sardonic and snide has been sucked right out of the character.
Garfield did more moving in that trailer than he did in all the comic strips and cartoons combined.
Odie is not animated. How can you not have that big-ass tongue in the movie?
Jon has NEVER scored with the women and I'm guessing he gets the ever so hot JLH at the end of the movie.[/list=1]
So I made a typo. Doesn't invalidate my point in the least.
I am suddenly very worried about what is happening with this movie...as others have said Garfield is not an active cat busting out with his dance moves and running around like that just isn't him. So far it would seem the best thing about this movie is the fact that the Garfield and Friends cartoons will be released on DVD in conjunction.
I thought they fixed Odie?
