My vote goes to the Sony DVPN-S700P progressive-scan DVD player that MSRPs for a measely $299.95. This is a breakthrough product that brought Sony 9000/Toshiba 9200-level performance down to less-than-stratospheric prices. A superb achievement that outperforms Sony's pre-9000 flagship player, the DVP-S7700D.
And a runner-up would be the new 47-inch, 16:9 Panasonic HD-capable RPTV, which brought digital television to the rest of us thanks to its sub-$2,000 asking price.
Home theater, unlike so-called "high-end" audio, gets better as it gets more affordable. Now that's a trend worth supporting.

I think I'll stick with a DVD player … nothing special, but the market for these isn't slowing down

Runner up would be the Panasonic TV

Yes, I know that there are other products like it (Archos, Nomad...), but it is a grand achievement in engineering and HCI alike.

Depending on how the litigation turns out, it could easily be the ReplayTV4000.
