Fans of PCU will remember the following sequence:
    Droz: PIGMAN!!
    Tom: What's he doing?
Droz: He's finishing his senior thesis. Pigman is trying
to prove the Caine-Hackman theory. No matter what time
it is, 24 hours a day, you can find a Michael Caine or
Gene Hackman movie playing on TV!
    Tom: That's his thesis?
Droz: Yes! That's the beauty of college these days,
Tommy! You can major in GameBoy if you know how to
    bullshit!
As I was sitting here watching Hard Eight, Samuel L. Jackson shows up (in the film, not my living room) - leading me to wonder if it isn't necessary to propose a new version of the Caine/Hackman theory for today.
Samuel L. Jackson is definitely half of the equation. Who else is omnipresent enough to serve as the remaining portion of this pop culture punchline?

I used to notice Caine everywhere for a few years, then he gave us a break, then LITTLE VOICE, CIDERHOUSE RULES, and a movie this year. The absence did him good.
Recently I've felt that Anthony Hopkins, Connery, etc, should also give us a break[IMG]

Caine has been in a lot lately, think AP3, Quicksand, Get Carter, Quills, Miss Congeniality, Curtain Call, and I think he's got like four or five films in the next year.

I just tested the theory by scanning through the TV listings for what is on right now. I was collecting candidates for the second position (Ben Stiller, Robert DeNiro, Ozzy Osbourne) when I got to Comedy Central, which is showing a repeat of Saturday Night Live. The host - Samuel L. Jackson, of course. [IMG]

I'm not saying its a good thing, but a weekend cannot go by without a Steven Segal movie being on. I've been tracking this phenomenon for an excrutiating six months now.

Steve Buscemi, one of the best background actors ever, steals every scene he is in.
