Motown's token white band.

Rare Earth wasn't the first all white group signed by Motown (according to Wikipedia) but they were the most successful group fitting that criteria. My favorite song by the group was probably their cover of The Temptations' (I Know) I'm Losing You.

Episode 71 - June 7th, 1974. Hosted by Ray Davies and the Kinks, featuring performances by ELO, Rory Gallagher, Buddy Miles, Alan Price, and Suzi Quatro.

Rory Gallagher was one of the highlights of this episode for me with some stellar guitar work.

Wow, the Kinks! One of the BEST live acts (I saw them during the Arista era around the time of One For The Road). Jeff Lynne without his trademark sunglasses!

Episode 75 - July 5th, 1974 - Hosted by Anne Murray with performances by Golden Earring, Eddie Kendricks, Country Joe McDonald, Rufus, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and The Wet Willie Band...

Probably one of the more musically diverse Midnight Special episodes with just a large variety of genres represented. I liked a lot of the acts featured in this episode, especially Eddie Kendricks and Rufus. (The credits in the opening did not emphasize Chaka Khan although this was the year that the band began calling itself Rufus featuring Chaka Khan. Perhaps it was a bit later in the year that this marketing change occurred.)
