I remember when this film came out, a documentary on it's production was released. I have never seen it,and I don't know if it has ever been released on LD/VHS. Anybody remember this?

I saw this too, on Cinemax when Poltergeist was being shown on cable. According to Widscreen Review, it's included on a "Deluxe Edition" LD boxset, cat.#ML104865, released in 1994.

It is indeed on the CAV boxed LD set. I haven't watched it in a while, but I do remember it slightly reinforcing the notion that Speilberg was a "ghost" director on the film. He does seem to be taking the reins from Tobe Hooper in a few scenes.
