I noticed a forthcoming DVD Review this week, but the front page doesn't list it anymore for this week or ever...anyone have any info on what might have happened? Curious what this looked like.

I guess Artisan didn't send a screener copy?

Artisan did send screeners - to me, at least - but it's a pretty obscure title, so I doubt too many reviews of it will pop up. As a Beatle fan, I'm tempted to watch it, but the fullframe turns me off...

What's the OAR for this film? IMDB doesn't state one.

Bravo showed this in widescreen (back in the days when they actually showed movies in widescreen) so I suspect the OAR isn't 1.33:1.

My biggest mistake is listing the titles I plan
to review, because it changes with every ring of
    the doorbell.

Basically, I have a pretty good idea of what I
want to review every week. Then, the doorbell
suddenly rings and I get a "hot" title like
X-MEN 1.5 or Sweet Home Alabama and
that bumps a small obscure title like The Magic
    Christian
    off my list.

Also, Artisan sent The Magic Christian and
Copacabana to me too close to street date.
The titles had streeted by the time I got it, so
doing a review is almost pointless.

In addition, this worst video company of them all
has released The Magic Christian full frame
despite the fact it was shown widescreen on TV.

I really want to see this film as I am
a huge Beatles fan. If I have time today, I'll
look at it and offer a review later this weekend.

The film also contains the song "Come and Get It" by Badfinger which was written by Paul McCartney.

I didn't even know this was scheduled for release, and I pore over the new DVD releases every week. Went to Best Buy at lunch and found it for $12.99 so picked it up. I've always liked this little movie, and have only seen it on TV. Usually it's really chopped up, and I've seen it presented without the final scene, which kinda caps the whole theme of the movie.

Some great lines in here ("the crowd is sickened by the sight of no blood"), IMHO, from both Ringo and Peter Sellers.

I like it better than Candy. Candy had a particularly bad transfer. They should have saved some of the money they spent on fancy packaging on a better transfer.

Not as good as Dr. Strangelove, but then Kubrick wasn't involved. Still, a strange little story with cute performances.

No need for me to do a review now.

This is what Artisan gets when they send out
screenesr that arrive on street date.

Actually, I'm very busy the next 5 days so this
saves me a lot of work.

That review on MONDO REVIEW is very good, by the way.

It appears to be open matte to me. For those that pick it up note the opening titles span the full width of the screen edge to edge.

I would have preferred a widescreen release of this but as it's always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid* I'm just happy to have it on DVD.

Woulda been nice if there was some clean up work on it, tho...

    P&S only??? What the @#$%?
I'll hold on to my LD for now

DVD started out so promising, it's turn into expensive VHS for people who hate those black bars.

    Not P&S, open matte.

Not as bad as P&S but acceptable enough if widescreen is not available. At least you don't lose any picture.

When Artisan puts on the back cover "presented in it's original 1.33:1 theaterical release to fit your TV screen", that's artisanspeak for open matte.

Hello everyone...thanks for the updates with link.
My computer monitor died Friday!!! It's warrantied replacement didn't arrive till this morning. I order a copy on DVD through www.fye.com for under $10 w/shipping so should have it anyday now. It's to bad Artisan is slacking off on the restoration/cleanup effort [IMG]
