I got all excited when I saw this thread, I misread it as "The Lost Weekend" <sad face>

This is marvelous news. The Image DVD, which includes the full 90-minute version, is quite good for standard def, but this could be awesome. The Willis O'Brien stop-motion certainly runs rings around the cheesy blown-up lizards employed by Irwin Allen for the 1960 remake, and is a direct precursor to the original KING KONG.

It'll also be great to have Ghost of Slumber Mountain in HD. Having read Czerkas' recent book, it becomes clear that Major Dawley could've done as good a job on Lost World as O'Brien, and quite likely better. And sad in a way, because it was his dream project. But I can't imagine Kong with anyone other than O'Brien, and without Lost World, there would be no King Kong.

I've never seen this in its entirety. Maybe now is the time.

Is this going to have the original title cards, or are they redoing them to make them "less racist"?

I found out that the title cards on this release have been altered to make them less racist. The "Brazilian" porter's dialogue has been cleaned up to eliminate the dialect.

As someone unfamiliar with the film, may I ask, what was the racist portion in question?

There is a character that speaks in black dialect. (He's in blackface too.) David Shepard apparently didn't like the original cards, so he replaced them with cleaned up grammar.

JC ...when will the left PC stop...NEVER!!!
In some respects, I can understand it, but in my opinion the original intertitle card dialogue should be used for historical accuracy. However, it does appear that when it comes to silent film, intertitle card PC alterations seem to be considered fair game even among fairly hard core purists, and alterations can be made that would normally have the purists howling if it were original sound dialogue dubbed over. Of course, sometimes there's more than one version of intertitle dialogue to begin with, and that is where the waters can get muddy, so to speak.

CHEERS! :)
