The Longest Day was one of my favourite widescreen laserdiscs. The DVD was a DNRed mess. The regular streaming version is a DNRed mess. I assume the Fox Blu-ray is no better. Has anyone watched The Longest Day streaming on the Criterion Channel, how does it look? Does Criterion plan a disc release?
Thanks in advance, Trevor.

I don't think so as I think they're showing it to honor June 6, 1944. The Blu-ray is bad!

I don't see The Longest Day ever being licensed out. More likely that Disney does a 4K upgrade because it's a steady seller with a history of people buying upgrades. It'll make money. Of course, maybe Disney will pass on the whole idea, in favor of recycling, say, Newsies again, maybe animate it this time with the score redone as hip-hop. Or maybe turn Bambi into a musical . . .

I'd be there opening day if they animate The Longest Day.

Wow. Are you some kind of Disney executive or something?

I looked at the first 10 minutes the other night. Same waxy master that’s on disc and all the other streamers.

It is waxy in appearance but still not too bad I suppose. Disney own this movie now so they are not interested in releasing anything back catalogue on BD/DVD or CD.....or so it seems. Their top executive management team are a strange lot.
I only watched the DVD once, a horrible experience. I believe it came from the HD master. I've tried to watch it streaming from Prime & YouTube and gave up after five minutes. To me, the problems are much worse than Patton. I've only recently upgraded to the Patton remaster, only when I compared the two could I see how much better the remaster is.

With Eisenhower played by Mickey Mouse? And Donald Duck in the John Wayne part?
Umm... if you like. But I was thinking of a serious war film. Something like this clip, but of course for the D-Day campaign instead of the Pacific campaign:

If they did, would I live long enough to see it happen? I'm in good health (for my age), but if it were a race between an arthritic snail & Criterion...my money would be on the snail. :)
I'm 51 and still waiting for the original versions of the real Star Wars movies on anything better than LaserDisc. I might die before Disney gets to it.
