Rhino is going to come out with a 4CD set, and DVD-A mix, of "The Last Waltz". Rhino gives the release date as April 2 for the normal release...the 30th for the DVD-A set.
Here's a GREAT fan link, that gives you the details about the concert, and EVERYTHING you want to know about the concert....

The Rhino site just lists it as being released...I hope this is not omenous of shoddy, Rhino Job! Their product is very spotty.

Rhino DVD may be "spotty", but their CD reissues are always top-notch.

I would imagine we'll get an MGM DVD SE about the same time, since it's been mentioned that it's coming this year.

I believe it's coming out around the same time as the CD set...or a little after.

I'm anxious to see/hear it, as I have the bootleg set that's been out for a while.

Considering it's the product of personal excesses on EVERYONE's part, at the time. Since it's their second crack at it, and all of their individual drug/alcohol histories are hopefully well behind them, or at least refined, it should be interesting as just a time piece. You shouldn't be expecting some kind of great epic here! Just getting a remaster will be acceptable.

Now, the Criterion 3DVD box set issue of "Monterey Pop" is REALLY something special to look forward to!!!! Just the regular theatrical issue was mindblowing and ahead of it's time, and containing some seminal rock music performances.

Yes, they were all on drugs (heck, Neil Young wanders on stage with a big wad of coke stuck in his nose), and yes, it was fantastic. I don't know how much one has to do with the other, but there you go.

I'm definitely up for the new 4 disc set, or maybe the DVD-Audio if I decide to branch out beyond SACD...
