if anyone has heard rumors please post. :b
I agree... Why has Steve Martin been so abused DVD wise? All of his films are bargain basement treatments. Witness the Walmart 5.88 bin placement. Disgraceful. I want correct releases of all of his films! What did he do to deserve this treatment?
I have a widescreen version of Happy Gilmore with DTS 5.1 sound. It's a LaserDisc.
I just watched my vhs of The Jerk last night. One of my favorite movies and I wish it would come out widescreen.
You can trouble me for a nice warm glass of shut the hell up! I keep hoping with every new Sandler movie on DVD that they'll try to "strike while the iron is hot" and release SEs (or at least OAR versions) of his earlier movies. Happy Gilmore is actually my favorite of his movies, and the only reason I don't own it is because of the MAR version that is on DVD. Philip, I envy you! (no LD player in da hizzouse)
But what if a widescreen edition of The Jerk caused viewers to go cross-eyed?! "You mean I'm gonna stay this color?!" "Sir, you are talking to a n****r!" I hope that we see a new anamorphic version soon with some special purposes - err, features. A Reiner/Martin commentary would great. I love it when M. Emmet Walsh pops up in a movie, and this one is the granddaddy of all M.E.W appearances! The Man With Two Brains would make a great SE, too. Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid also, would be great. And I can't be the only one who loves L.A. Story! Open-season on the freeway! Rollerskating through the art gallery! "I'll have a double-decaffinated half-caf - with a twist of lemon." John Lithgow had a scene, but it was deleted and has never been shown on Laser/VHS/DVD - what about TV? It's supposed to be hilarious. Gordy
Happy Gilmore is an extrordinary comedy, and the current DVD (much like the exceptional Jerk) is disgusting. I love both films, and wouldn't even flinch in picking them up.
Happy doesn't even have to be an SE for me to buy it. I just want an anamorphic widescreen transfer. I'd even settle for them just recycling the old LD transfer. I'm not sure how good or bad it is, but it has to be better than what we have right now.
I believe both HAPPY GILMORE and THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS are open-matte transfers versus pan-n-scan, so just zoom 'em till new editions come out.... if ever....
Dolores: What are those assholes doing on the porch? Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Those aren't assholes. It's pronounced *azaleas*.
I would definitely buy an OAR or SE version of Happy Gilmore. It is my 2nd favorite golf movie of all time (with Caddyshack, of course, being #1).
The gas station attendant scenes: "Damn these glasses!" "The new phone books are here!" "These cans are defective!" and of course who can forget writing home (different scene) and Naven thinking he will have more money to send next time cuz... --- It's been said here previously but bears repeating. A comic/actor with Steve Martin's "C.V." deserves better... MUCH better.
Happy Gilmore and The Jerk are both hilarious films that deserve OAR discs.
Another vote for L.A. Story. I wouldn't mind double-dipping this classic.
