I was undecided if this should be in TV or movies. If the moderators decide to move it, that's great too, then both sides will see it.
The Cartoon network is having a marathon showing of THE IRON GIANT tonight! Starting at 6:00pm (that's Central time) it's all Iron Giant, all the time, for 24 hours!
I love this movie, saw it several times in the theater, and own the DVD, so I don't *need* to tune into the marathon, but I just think this is wonderful. The movie has never gotten the proper attention it deserves, and this marathon is a step in the right direction.

Wow! I'd been wishing that this movie would air on TV sometime so that it would get the exposure it deserves. 24 hours is much more than I could ever have hoped for! I hope Cartoon Network will continue to do this marathon yearly, enabling The Iron Giant to become a popular classic.

Too bad Cartoon Network will be showing the butchered, pan and scan version. [IMG]

You mean, they are airing the Iron Giant over and over again in a 24 hour period? For a second there, I thought there was an Iron Giant TV series!

    That's pretty amazing...never heard of a single-movie marathon before.

Vickie is right, it's good enough that the movie will be seen by people who wouldn't give it a chance at all.
It's nice to see someone love this movie almost as much as I do. [IMG]

Yes, there should practically be a national order that requires everyone in the US to see this film! Anything that gets this movie in front of more people is a good thing.

    A great thing!

    Cheers to the Cartoon Network!

I'm watching it now and it's just delightful! They just went to a commercial and said "We will return to Cartoon Network's special premiere of the animated classic The Iron Giant." Wheee!
I went to the Cartoon Network website, and clicking through the "Help" tab will get you to a Feedback form. I thanked them. [IMG]

    produced by pete townshend.

WHO also created an album called THE IRON MAN THE MUSICAL BY PETE TOWNSHEND.
this album also contains 2 songs that are essentially going to be the last real songs ever recorded by the WHO.

both are based on a childrens story written by ted hughes.

it's a pretty good cd by the way.

Thanks for the quote, Jeff. I've been meaning to spin this film since I got my new TV, and may just do that tonight or later this week.

    Although I wish two things:
-That Cartoon Network would broadcast its original, beautiful Cinemascope frame
-That the new edition of the DVD would come out!

I'm just happy that this movie is getting the attention it has rightfully deserved all this time.

I saw it when it first premiered and left the theater thinking it was one of the best modern animated classics to come out and recommended it to all my friends. I was heartbroken it had all but disappeared from the theaters in a short time.

It's great it is now finding it's audience on video and on TV. Long live this wonderful film.

...now where is that damn Special Edition?!!

I read something encouraging in the software area, posted by Vlad D regarding the SE DVD: "I hope this comes out soon. I have never seen this movie and this morning caught some of it on the Cartoon Network before I left for work. The little that I saw was awesome. I'm debating whether I should buy the current DVD or wait for the SE." Just imagine all the children, after watching the entire movie, begging their parents to buy them the DVD, or VHS tape.

The WB network will be showing this movie on Thanksgiving night at 8:00.

I'm hoping they will do this annually.

Adam, you might have confused them. They aired the marathon in July and air it once in a while. WB is the one airing it tomorrow on Thanksgiving.

Count me in as a big fan of this movie! Very well written, and beautiful, classic animation.
