Pinging will get you the IP, but the real way to do it is use nslookup.
If you're on NT/2000/XP, nslookup is builtin and you can run it from the command line. 95/98/ME do not have nslookup so you'd have to go to a website that will do nslookup for you (such as www.spfld.com/nslookup.html).
