I've stopped going to movies. Just don't have a good time with people talking, cell phones, and crappy sound systems. I have a better and more relaxed time when I get home from work, have dinner, and stroll into the den and watch a flick. No people talking. No cell phones(Except for mine & that gets turned off). And my meager Yamaha system is better than half the multiplexes out there.

Would like to stay and chat awhile, but have an all day apefest planned. All 5 Planet Of The Apes movies today including the new 35th Anniversary release.

Cheers.

How's everyone making out? My luck has held out, I've watched at least 1 disk a day all year.
Latest title: Ed Wood: SE. Bottom line: Fantastic, if you can find it!

Have fun, everyone. It sounds liek a fun challenge that I will have to pass on due to the various things I have to watch (some stuff that I review) and i have some writing to do this year.

Be Seeing You,

I'm hanging in there. Just finished "Time after Time" to bring me to 44 completed. Will take a day off as I'm still tired from last weeks assault on my collection. 13 movies in 5 days.

Hang in there Chris, the men with the white coats will arrive soon. :D :D :D

Well, I tell you, I'm doing ok in that I'm watching a disc per day at least, but I'm still way behind, I updated my post showing what I've completed in January, and how I'm doing so far in February. I've watched a lot, and completed not a lot, because well, it takes awhile to complete a season of Friends just as an example.

OK, I'll join in late.

So I'll just have to start from recent memory (the past few days) and just play along for the fun of it. :D Also, please don't judge my taste upon the titles listed below. Many of these movies will never see the shelf on which my "Real DVD Collection" resides. ;) But I own 'em right now, so that makes 'em part of my collection! Look, I'm cheating already! (I will not be including Netflix rentals! ;) )

From hazy January remembrances up to and including Feb. 4th:

Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Beyond Re-Animator (2003)
Bulletproof Monk (2003)
A Decade Under the Influence (2003)
Escape from New York
Empire (2002)
Flesh + Blood (1985)
The Italian Job (2003)
Paper Moon (1973)
Time Bandits (1981)
The Work of Director Chris Cunningham
The Work of Director Michel Gondry
Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)

I guess I'm doing ok based on last year's challenge. Since I can't compete with you guys, I figured I'll try to beat my personal bests. With 122 DVDs viewed last year, I averaged a bit over 10 DVDs a month with 17 being the high and 2 being the low. I'll try and beat all the highs this year. I just hope by the end of the year, my overall total is more than chrisBEA's highest month. :D

I'd be very pleased if I did this, so that's my personal DVD challenge of 2004 (hopefully no one minds). I've got about 500 DVDs I've never watched (although most of those were not blind buys). I didn't watch a single one of my own movies this year before I started this (all of January), so this has really helped me get going.

Movies with an + I've never seen before (blind buys). Ratings are out of 5, since that seems to be the trend in the thread.

I started this out with 820 total DVDs, and 513 unwatched (63.6% unwatched)--it is all Columbia House's fault! My first goal, then, is to get down to 50% unwatched (then work down from there). Currently (April 19) I have 881 DVDs, 462 unwatched (52.4%), so I am making progress.

Here's where I am so far this year:

looking at my list i realized i watch more movies that i rent then i own.
i have about 900.

i work at blockbuster for a few hrs a week so i get minimal of 5 free rentals a week and we can rent the dvd's before they street so thats alot of rentals.
i'm trying to watch my own dvds too but it is harder then i thought it would be.

right now i have 4 i just rented.

out of time, intolerable cruelty, runaway jury and bad boys II.
so they will be next on my list.

A bit late starting, but I've saved what I've watched in January in a Word document, luckily!

For those who are interested, I watched around 300 discs last year (that includes many 2, 3, 4 or even 5 times - probably only about 100 discs). This year I want 600 *different* discs. Tough! But I hope to make it.
I'll include all DVD's I own - music, TV, film - as well as my parents'.

I think that I'll count the number of discs as well as sets, as a large portion of my DVD watching will be TV shows.

***1/2, **** - blue

0, * - black

Almost halfway through February, and I think I'm keeping a good pace. All of these new purchases are slowing me down, and I don't see an end in sight to them!

I'm doing pretty well - on average watching about 2 discs a day, well on target for 600 this year. Here's hoping! :)

My problem is that I have too many season sets I want to watch this year. Makes it difficult to watch a DVD or more a day.

Oh well, it's all in fun anyway.

Just got finished with the S1/S2 set of Family Guy and I loved it! :D

I'd only seen a few episodes here and there; it made me laugh a few times but I dismissed it as a Simpsons ripoff.

Now I consider myself a fan! Looking forward to picking up the Vol. 2 set.

This was a wonderful series! Add another convert to the list. Ya know there's a reason this series sold so well, and the studio paid attention. Can't wait for new eps of this series!

Scott & Chris, I agree. I had also dismissed this when it aired and couldn't understand what all the hub-bub was about. Absolutely loved it. One of my favorites is in the "Wasted Talent" episode when Stewie asked Peter to play "that sad walking away song from the Incredible Hulk". I nearly fell off the sofa.

Agree with all three of you! Bought the three season sets out here - awesome show. My favourite episodes are "Wasted Talent", "If I'm Dyin' I'm Lyin'" and "Road To Europe". Excellent show.
