Though he only made two feature films, Narciso Ibáñez Serrador is considered to be one of the most central figures in the Golden Age of Spanish Horror films (1968-1975). A big reason is due to the popularity of the TV series Tales to Keep You Awake (Historias para no dormir) that had brought him to fame in Spain, which was still under the reign of General Francisco Franco when the series began its run. Coming in at the point where censorship standards were relaxed and the nation’s desire to open up to international investors, The House That Screamed (La Residencia) marked Ibáñez Serrador’s feature film debut. Previously released on Blu-ray by Scream Factory, Arrow Video has licensed the film from MGM for its latest Blu-ray release.

I saw this film in a 70mm blow-up when it was first released. Twisted take, quite handsomely made even if a bit predictable. Narciso Ibañez Serrador is considered one of the greatest creative minds in Spanish television from the 60's and 70's.
