Have you heard it yet? I compared it in stereo to the LP last night. It did well. The LP might have a tiny edge, petite. I'm gonna try the M/C program soon.

The noodleheads proably think it's smart to withold extra tracks, so they can plot another disc or set in a year or two...? I figur their hi-rez buyers deserve the ex-tree tracks as much or more than anybody else. Of course I'm biased. People will take it as a slap, proably? The disc space was certainly there.

I have a bad feeling we'll see this on DVD-A soon with the extra tracks.

I went ahead and bit the bullet, though, and this sounds fantastic. I can really only compare this to the "Deluxe Edition" CD (I have only memories of hearing this on vinyl), and it's never sounded better to me. I went with the multi-channel program, and enjoyed it enough that I haven't bothered w/the stereo layers.

I don't get your point. The link shows the REGULAR LP, not the Deluxe Edition. I would say that there is no chance in Hell that the DVD-A would be different from the main program of the SACD (except for menus & video content, if any).

Universal has been doing their DVD-As and SACDs of the same titles with the same content at least to this point. I would agree with Larry's statement and would be very surprised if it includes more.

Either way, this SACD is a no-go for me.

Besides, my copy of The Fillmore Concerts sounds perfectly fine... a superb remaster.

Not a superb remaster---a horrible remix & changing of takes. Do a search of past threads on this to find out why most of us here hate it!

Couldn't find much in a search... but your POV is acknowledged insofar as it is a dreaded remix.

Normally I don't care to have the mixes tampered with either... but while The Fillmore performances are monumental, the sonics of prior versions have never done much for me... I can't consider the vinyl version precious (tho it has been a while)... The Fillmore Concerts -- in and of itself -- is a pleasing listen to these ears... the bass is boosted but certainly not bloated... clarity in the cymbals... decent depth and presence... plus, let's not forget those extra tracks.

    Revisionist? Yes.... Ruined? No.

As far as most of us here ... it wouldn't be the first time I went against the grain.

    Cheers.

I have the Fillmore Concerts too, and while I also had the lp, I never directly compared the two. But I can certainly find no fault with this CD.

But someday I might pick up the Deluxe CD just for Midnight Rider... [IMG]

Larry G- Any thoughts on the Deluxe CD?

(Shoot, now I need to go check the comments on Amazon.com...)

Interesting... I just looked over the reviews at Amazon, and I guess the bottom line is that both versions of the disc offer fans something. Seems like most people don't say that one is better or worse than the other, just that they are "different".

Still a shame that the SACD didn't offer the extra tracks.

I think it's great (but I haven't heard the SACD yet--judging from Eat A Peach, the Fillmore SACD will be better also).

BTW, the reason a search here hasn't turned up much is because I was confused between here & the Hoffman forum (where most of the Fillmore Concerts slagging took place). Sorry!

That's cool... what's important is that many of us revere this historic live recording enough to seek the best listening experience... heck, this thread prompted me to give TFC a spin for the first time in months... and what a treat it was.

If an even better-produced package comes along -- with the additional tracks -- I'll be stoked to acquire that as well.
