Plot: In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm, a fantastic story about 5 mythical heroes. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur as the tale advances.

Where to watch

I absolutely love this movie and I have since the first time I saw it.
My wife and I both enjoyed it so much, with tears in our eyes whenever we would watch it, that we swore if we ever had a child and it was a girl… We would name her after the main character.

Our daughter was born in 2018 and we did exactly that. We named her "Alexandria "

Apparently Tarsem has been trying since 2023 to get the film onto physical media, 4K UHD.
He even approached Criterion, who turned him down, stating “it wasn’t their kind of film “

It is now streaming in 4K on MUBI and we’ll make it debut on 4K UHD later this year.

Thank God

The movie is a beautiful heart felt fairytale from a five-year-old girls perspective. Shot in 24 different countries, it screams for a 4K UHD release.

Anxiously waiting for this one.

Hey, I'll get a 4K release, as long as it's done well. In fact, I just ordered The Cell, which comes out in 4K on 1/21.

I saw the 4K remaster on MUBI, the clarity is startling but no HDR yet
So this disc should be fucking beautiful

From what tarsem has written it jumps off the screen now.

Yeah I’m looking forward to the cell that’s actually what made me start looking for the fall wondering what the holdup was with his work

I’ve always felt The Cell was sorely misunderstood, or just overlooked.

And, I’ve only ever seen The Fall on DVD, so I’ve never really seen it.

With "The Fall" blu ray being OOP, the film wasn't easy to view in the past in HD quality. I got lucky and found a copy in a Blockbuster case in a Facebook physical media group (still came with original cover art, so I just popped it in a blank blu-ray case upon receipt). It was good to revisit the film last year when I got that blu-ray title.

Crazy to hear Criterion passed on a 4k release. Such is life.

Oh agreed, the Criterion reaction… It’s crazy.
It was one of the first Blu-ray discs I ever bought thank God I still have the copy.

It looks fantastic and sounds great

I had no idea Tarsem was having a hard time getting it to 4K UHD physical two years ago until I read this article by Collider last week,

I looked at the prices for MUBI service to see if I could check out the 4K, but I am not going to pay $20 a month to watch a movie. Nope.

I will pay $50 to buy the 4K UHD
Blu-ray disc uncompressed without hesitation

Hopefully they have Dolby vision on it When it comes out but I’ll be fine if it’s just HDR 10 with lossless audio

It's currently $25 on Amazon. Sorry my confusion. that's The Cell, of course.

I've always enjoyed The Cell for its visually dynamic presentation. There is some wonderful imagery in the film that is meaningful beyond eye candy. The casting of the film works well, particularly Vincent D'Onofrio's antagonist. I sort of feel like the film is discounted due to the prevalence of psychotic / serial killer story lines that are common in modern entertainment. It has been a long time since I've viewed this and a revisit is in order.

On the topic of director Tarsem Singh, I was reviewing his credits on IMDB and see a limited Television series that he directed - Emerald City. While the reviews are kind of mixed I am almost certain that I would enjoy the visual aesthetic.

- Walter.

Oh boy…
I watched the first two episodes, it was amazing.

Completely reimagined The Wizard of Oz by Tarsem. Vincent Donofrio plays the Wizard of Oz.
It was on NBC and they canceled it, if I remember right it was because of the budget that would be needed, and the audience ratings were not justifying the budget.

But it was brilliant the scarecrow character appeared, he was a man being crucified and saved by Dorothy.

Visionary.
It belonged on Netflix or HBO or another streaming service.

Give it a try if you can find it Wayne, if I remember correctly, they did not air the complete first season
Tarsem seems to be misunderstood and underestimated.

Check out this trailer.
