I was watching The Elephant Man on TCM the other night and I heard a familar piece of score, but I could not place it. Does anyone know the piece of music that plays as John Merrick commits suicide? Thanks

Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings". Also used (to the point of overkill) in Platoon.

"Adagio for Strings" written by Samuel Barber. It's been used in a few movies, but is probably famous in Platoon.

Great piece of music, but over used is putting it politely.
Also used in The Scarlett Letter w/Demi Moore. Of course, anything classic piece of music played in that film just once is overused, IMO. [IMG]
