I just bought a copy of the Unrated version on VHS(yes VHS) I found at Sam Goody for $10 since all the stores around here only have the R rated version for rent.
I've never seen the entire mvie before..ony bits & pieces when it was on Cinemax years ago- i remeber the framing was horrible & wanted to wait for a widescreen release. Yet since the dvds fullframe-i'm sure the movie was shot that way(?) btw-i bought it on VHS since it was cheaper than dvd + if the movie sucks, i can always sell it + not waste much $$ on it. I'll give it a watch later tonight once everyones asleep since we only have one VCR & thats upstairs in the living room.
So i was jus curious as to what everyones opinion is on the film?

It did get a theatrical release in '95, so it's highly unlikely that the VHS/DVD are OAR.
I personally thought this was an unwatchably terrible movie. For anyone interested in seeing it, Yahoo has the entire movie available (legally) streaming at http://ybcst.yahoo.com/Movies/Full_L...and_Adventure/
Edit -- :sigh: Yet again forgot that this implementation of UBB doesn't parse URLs correctly

Yeah- i thought it was bad to,which is another reason why i never bothered watching the whole thing before, but for some reason over the years after seeing Greg Araki's Nowhere latenight on cable, which i happened to like-i've become curious to check it out(uncut) & give it a chance.
I remember it seemed more like a bad pan & scan transfer, which is why it looked so horrible with people cropped offscreen ect. Though from various threads i've seen-everyone claims it's just bad directing by Araki,so who knows?

Ok-actually made it through the entire movie!
It wasn't that bad & pretty good for the most part. Nothing i'm dieing to see again, since it was pretty creepy, very bleak & just makes you feel really depressed by the time it ends-though it did have a few darkly funny moments. I may even check out the R-rated version just to see how badly cut it is,since 13mn were removed,so it'd run around 70mn then!
Really bizzare & definatly not for everyone as the reviews from those links proved, lol.
As for the OAR-well that is the one really distracting thing while watching this. It looks like a 2:35 movie zoomed in to the max. Also the begining credits were cropped offscreen,so maybe the movie was really shot in at least 1:85 widescreen-not open matte & we just have a bad zoomed in P&S transfer? Because if the movie was only matted-it'd look even worse & more picture info would be lost. For example-watch all scenes in the car or hotel room in bed, with all 3 charecters in the shot, but cropped severly offscreen. Either Araki is a really bad director & doesn't know a thing about composition & keeping the camera out of peoples faces or it's just a bad transfer. Anyone know for sure??

Sure, this movie was over-the-top and bizarre, however, I feel like I "got" it. I thought it was a rather wicked satire of 90s youth culture and how blase they find everything to be. Not that I would go around recommending the movie, since it's quite difficult to sit through.

I have no interest in Doom Generation, but I would be interested in Nowhere, which looks very sharp on cable and on vhs. A DVD transfer would be really nice.
The only good thing I have to say about DG is you get to see Rose McGowans boobs.

I actually liked it. Kind of disturbing, kind of cheesy. It will be a cult classic I feel. Maybe not for an exceptional film but for Rose McGowan nekkid. :)

It's one of thos movies where its only value is seeing Rose McGowan naked. Thank God she came to her senses and dumped Marilyn Manson. Now maybe I have a shot at her. :)

Nowwhere is a awsome & much more fleshed out & intense teen angst movie. Much better than DG also & framed better as well.
Maybe a unrated version could be released? I'm sure it had some stuff cut out, though i was still suprised at how dark the movie was with a R rating since you know the MPAA & Hollywood nowadays!
Hopefully it'll get a dvd release soon!
As for DG's OAR-from what i can tell,is Araki had a really bad DP & what you see,is what you get!!

I liked it except for some of the weird teen language in it. Buy the VHS you can find it at best buy or hastings for about six bucks.
