I haven't seen anything about this great
release on the htf. This is truly exciting.

Palm Pictures is releasing a new series of DVDs
called "The Directors Label". Which focuses on the
work of groundbreaking directors and their non full
    length feature work.

The following three DVDs will be released within the
    next few months.

The Work of Director Spike Jonze

The Work of Director Chris Cunningham

The Work of Director Michel Gondry

Every DVD will contain commercials, music videos,
shorts and a lot of extras handpicked by the
    directors + a 52 page booklet.

for more info visit the palm pictures website.

I'm certainly looking forward to the Spike Jonze disc. I had initially seen an August 26th date for its release, but amazon.ca has it listed at October 28th right now (as an import).

After reading the short IMDB profiles on Cunningham and Gondry, I'm curious about those discs too.

What I want to know is whether anyone's tracked down a complete list of contents for each of these three discs. Palm's Web site doesn't even have them! Sheesh.

A ton of Gondry videos can be found on the current "Bjork Greatest Hits" DVD. It includes all her videos up to and including her last album, nd can be had for under $20 in Canada. Even if you don't like her music, her videos have always been facinating.

I'd love to see Spike Jonze's other work (I've seen the Beastie Boys Anthology and being John Malkovich, and I hear Adaptation is pretty nice), and Chris Cunningham has a twisted style that really rocks, especially his work with Aphex Twin. He's also named to direct a movie version of Neuromancer if and when it's adapted for the screen.

ETA: I found this little blurb:

DVDEmpire, DVDPlanet, and Amazon all list the running time as 400 minutes. [IMG]

Could this be right, or did Palm Pictures send out erroneous info? You can't get 400 minutes one one disc, so, if true, this would be a two disc set or a dvd-18.

Plus, DVDEmpire and DVDPlanet list the release date as September 23? I think I'll go with them, since they seem to be more on the ball about such things than Amazon. 400 minutes does sound a little suspect for one disc. Of course, I'm not complaining [IMG], especially not for $14!

I can tell you right now, Chris Cunningham is amazing. I listen to Aphex Twin, and Squarepusher and I've seen the videos they've done with Chris, and he's purely a genious. His ideas are fresh.

As much as I love Jonze.

I am really looking forward to the Cunningham and Gondry discs.

Cunningham is a visual genius, his commercials and music videos are pure art. The same counts for Gondry.

note that the idea for the ending sequence from BJM was stolen from a Gondry commercial.

I can't wait to see Gondrys

Palm Pictures has set up a site with trailers for the three currently announced (and presumbaly for future released) titles over at http://www.directorslabel.com/. Current release date according to DVD Empire for these three is 10/28.
