Since I first saw Visions of Light, I've been dying to watch Bertolucci's Il Conformista. I can't even find it on VHS...what's the word on this movie? Anyone knows who owns the right and if it is rumored to ever come to DVD?

While we're talking Bertolucci, what about the Grim Reaper..or a new transfer for the Last Emperor?

    Thanks

Japan Amuse co. has released 'Il Conformista' DVD years ago.
With Italian mono audio track/1.85:1 widescreen anamorphic format, and Japanese subtitle only. Running time: 113 mins.

As You can see, picture quality is fantastic:

I'd like to believe the folks at Paramount are working late into the night perfecting this DVD, but then I think, NAH--they're probably just working on a repackaged Mission Impossible or Star Trek instead.

    Such a great film . . . what's the deal, Paramount??

I'd love to see Bertolucci's '1900' on DVD.

Hopefully Paramount will take notice of Warner releasing world cinema product and put out The Conformist. It was restored in '95 and I saw a beautiful print a couple of years ago so good elements exist.

Me, too. Note that Paramount owns this film as well . . .

Just another voice for The Conformist. When I saw those images in Visions Of Light my jaw dropped. Those are the kind of visuals that I go ga-ga over in movies. I may have to search out that japanese disc...

One of my 10 most wanted films on DVD. I would be ecstatic if this came out on DVD, fully restored with the 5 minutes of footage that was cut out on it's initial release here in the U.S.

Count me in as well, not only for The Conformist, but also for the restored, uncut 1900. Like The Conformist, Paramount restored and re-released this film in the early 90s for theatrical release, but has yet to follow-up with a suitable home video version. 1900 is a long haul in its full-length form, but I would certainly purchase it if it was available. The Conformist is a no-brainer and I hope some of the rumors about Paramount prepping it for DVD is true.

Are there any updates on the status of "The Conformist?" I've been dying to see this film for years now, can't seem to find a rental store with a copy either. Anybody know where I can rent this in the L.A. area? Don't have a laserdisc player so would have to be on VHS.... Thanks!

I'd love to see both The Conformist and 1900 again - it's been years since I've seen either and both viewings were on VHS.

God, yeah, I'd love to see both of them on DVD.

Bertolucci's been treated pretty shabbily in the English language regions. I've already posted this but, in case you missed it, there's a brilliant special edition of his under-rated adaptation of THE SHELTERING SKY available in France, with a commentary and documentary.

I'd also like to see a special edition of LAST TANGO IN PARIS. I posted that as well, to not much response. I'm getting the feeling there's not a lot of Bertolucci fans out there. [IMG]

Indeed, I'd say this film is among Paramount's greatest treasures and deserves the utmost care and attention.

The Conformist was name checked a bit in Annette Insdorf's commentary of The Three Colours - Red and it just makes me want to see it even more...

    Pretty please?

An anamorphic treatment of Storaro's wonderful cinematography is one of my most desired DVD wishes. Let's hope Paramount wakes up and delivers a great disc!

Glad to see someone resurected this thread and that people are showing interest in this movie. [IMG]

I hope Paramount has some plans for this movie within the next year at least.
