IMDB has "The Commitments" listed as a 4:3 P&S release in Dolby 2.0, released in November 1999.
Does anyone know of any plans to re-visit this title?

I think it was mentioned in the last Fox chat that this title may be released next year.
    Fingers crossed....

For what it's worth, it's not P&S, it's Open Matte. The 2.0 soundtrack is clean. It's a fun movie and right now, the current DVD release is the best way of seeing it.
I would like to see a 5.1 Widescreen presentation in the future however.

I have this "Benelux" version of The Committments and whilst it is a huge improvement over the 4:3 Dolby Pro Logic R2 version I'm afraid the DD5.1 soundtrack is a bit of a let down IMO - I actually checked to see if my rear speakers were still connected the first time I watched it !
    I got mine from http://www.dvdzone2.com

Just wanted to bump this thread and ask if anyone has heard anything about this being released in R1 as an OAR 5.1 disc?

I bought the new MGM SE released in Europe and for what it's worth I think it's an excellent release. Good solid extras, docs, a music video and much more, no commentary track though.

The video is splendid for a low-budget film (1.85:1 16x9) and the soundtrack was good. It wouldn't surprise me if this movie was originally mixed in Surround and the 5.1 soundtrack stays true to that mix.

The Commitments is one of my favorite flicks. Here's hoping we see that widescreen special edition real soon! [IMG]
