Any rumors whether Sony/Columbia will release something Halloween-themed from their vaults in October?

May be the long-awaited A Study in Terror or another Icons of Horror set?

Not exactly horror, but a box set of the "Complete Whistler Series" would be a nice Halloween release. The films don't feature a recuring character other than the unseen "Whistler" narrator, but are very effective and enjoyable suspense films.

The Films of Rita Hayworth set now has a release date - November 2. The same day Sony will also release the individual discs of films from Jack Lemmon Film Collection for 14.94 list price each.

I am surprised that Sony has not brought out these WWII films (all widescreen): THE HEROES OF TELEMARK, THE NIGHT OF THE GENERALS, THE VICTORS, and THE KEY. Great casts, and they are all available on R2 releases. Missed opportunities.

Couple more suggestions;

Emir Kusturica's Time of the Gypsies
Robert Siodmak's The Whistle at Eaton Falls
Joseph H. Lewis's So Dark the Night
Joseph H. Lewis's My Name is Julia Ross
John Brahm's Let Us Live
Vincent Sherman's Harriet Craig

Gordon Douglas' Walk a Crooked Mile

Also, there are a number of obscure John Sturges films that I think could make an interesting set. Evidently, he started his career at Columbia:

The Man Who Dared, Shadowed, Alias Mr. Twilight, For the Love of Rusty, Keeper of the Bees, The Sign of the Ram, Best Man Wins, The Walking Hills

And around the Net today, Image and Sony have inked a deal that will allow Sony to replicate all of Image's DVD and Blu-ray releases, while Image will get to distribute some of Sony's deeper catalog titles.

There are several DVD-Rs listed at the Critic's Choice homepage, mostly B/C movies but some high profile titles as well as 10 Rillington Place.

I guess the Columbia DVD-R series is born. Would be nice to get a press release or a short statement what to expect from this series. Will they do both: classics on standard DVD + DVD-R?

Is this actually legit? Seems odd that it's not been mentioned anywhere... Someone should inquire to Sony.

Hummmmmm

And they are $24.99 marked down to $21.21.

Even though there are some titles I would love to have, I am not bitting.

That is a massive amount of Sony films and a good portion of the ones listed in this thread. Surely there must be some information somewhere!?

You are right about the lack of information and what about the deal Sony made with Image Entertainment that was announced. Looks as if Sony is getting out of the DVD business. I was very disappointed in that the there were several Jungle Jim titles listed, where I was hoping of some sort of collections of the films. I remember Sony at one time saying they wanted to release those titles as sets.

However, any way to increase the number of older films that get released is good. I just hope that the price comes down and that the transfers are good and in anamorphic where appropriate. As for as Critic's Choice, they are owned by Infinity Resources, Inc which also owns Deep Discount (their major company) and other web sale sites so this should prove interesting.

Ahollis is right. Deep Discount lists them as well for $ 18.

I still hope they'll continue with their Columbia Classics DVD mission next year. :)
