How is this current release in terms of video and audio?
Also, any word of a re-release or special edition?

Honestly, they really couldn't make it any better. The video is brilliant, the colours are great, the audio is as good as it's going to get. Watching it in widescreen is like seeing a completely different movie. It's pretty sparse on extras, but if you like the movie, you'll never find a better presentation than this.

They could make it better by providing an anamorphic transfer, but as it is now it's a rather nice disc.

    Rob,
Have you heard anything about a re-release?

I agree. It is a pretty good disc, even though it's non-anamorphic and short on extras. Still, if you're a fan of the film, it's too irresistable to pass up.

Nope, haven't heard anything Dave. I doubt it would happen for a while, if at all.
It's a really nice DVD through.

Is there only one version of this disc out (in the US)?

Oh, I forgot one main detail. If you buy the DVD, make sure it has a RED DOT on the back. The first copies pressed were missing the right channel in the 5.1 track and Anchor Bay then pressed new copies which weren't missing the right channel and the only way to tell the fixed copies from the recalled copies we're a red dot on the back of the packaging.

Uh oh... I don't have no red dot! [IMG]
Does Anchor Bay offer an exchange program? I think the only time I've watched this disc as yet was on my computer, not in my theater. So I only had a stereo setup and didn't notice any 5.1 problems...
    Thanks.

Mike, the red dot was attached to the plastic wrap. If you bought your copy two months or so after April 2000, it's safe to say you indeed have a fixed copy. Try your disc in your HT. If your right channel is indeed missing, you know you have a defective copy.

I absolutely adore this movie (have since I was a wee tyke) and I LOVE the DVD. As other people ahve said, it could use anamorphic enhanceent, but otherwise it's grand image/audio quality wise. I'm so glad Disney didn't hang onto this one and fart it out...the 5.1 mix ont he disc is very nice and very immersive. My only minor complaint is that, to the best of my knowledge, Anchor Bay never made a DVD version of limited VHS version which contained a copy of the script and conceptual artwork/material from the originally planned ending sequence (which I have no clue as to what it was).
