I have to enjoy it while it lasts, so here's a thread for those Bengals fans out there. 2-0!!! First place!!!
They played a pretty good game against Baltimore, and amazingly the bad breaks never surfaced aside from Warrick's fumble on the punt. I kept waiting for it to unravel but it didn't.
If you look at the next few games on the schedule, they are certainly winnable. Could it finally be a winning season?!

Yes, things are looking good for our team so far. Keep those fingers crossed.
I've stuck with this team through the good and the bad, and it would be nice for them to recapture the glory days of the 80's, but that still might be a bit premature.
I'm just happy to see someone other than myself admit to being a fan.

Finally, I look like a genius on the Pick 'em games... :)
Hopefully the Bucs/Bengals game I have tickets for in December will be a Super Bowl preview...
Okay, maybe THAT's going a little far...

Could you Bengals fans arrange to have Scott Mitchell sent back to Detroit? We are running out of quarterbacks.

I did not think it was possible for anyone to throw 7 interceptions in one game.

The Bengals and the Chargers are the early positive surprises. As for negative surprises, Baltimore, Tennessee and Minnesota have problems.
One preseason playoff contender that looks even better than suspected is Miami. Fiedler is healthy, so their offense looks better than last season. With their excellent defense, the Dolphins have become a real Super Bowl contender.

The surprising thing for me was that it wasn't an NFL record. Sorry, I couldn't find out who holds the records at 8. I can't believe they are sticking with Detmer though after benching Batch for throwing 2 interceptions. I guess Batch should have thrown 5 more.

I hope so. I grew up in south Florida, and I've always been a Dolphins fan despite living in Cincinnati for the past nine years. Then again, considering the Bengals' past nine years, it hasn't been all that hard not to root for them. The sports stations here are literally in shock. They've been bashing the Bengals for so long, they have no clue what to talk about. Most of the talk during the drive to work this morning revolved around how bad the Ravens must really be, since that obviously has to be the explanation...right?
My favorite postgame quote of this young season:
"He got it done, and that is the bottom line," Miami tight end Hunter Goodwin said. "We've got a lot of guys on this team like Jay [Fiedler]. Guys who aren't always pretty, but they get it done. At the end of the day, what do you want? A beautiful loss or an ugly win? I guess if you're talking about a woman, I want a pretty woman. But I also want one who's going to get it done."

He obviously misinterpreted what it means to "be bullish."

...Meanwhile my poor Vikings are off to their worst start since 1984.
Our Vikings might not be 0-2 if they hadn't forgotten how to throw the ball down field. Culpepper appears to be taking one quick look, get happy feet, then dump it short or tuck it and run. I don't know how many replays I have seen where Moss or Carter have their hand up and are open (and he doesn't see this), but it has been far too many!
Duante is starting to look like Bobby Douglas the old running quarterback of 1970's Chicago Bears fame. Arrrgggggh!

My Jags are 2-0 as well. Nobody thought the Bengals and Jags would ever be leading the AFC Central. Its still very early in the season though. With Fred Taylor going down its starting to look like last year again.

Batch's days have been numbered since Matt Millen and Marty Morningweh have come to Detroit. The best thing Marty said about Batch was "he's the hand we've been dealt, so he's our starting quarterback". Not a ringing endorsement from the new coach. Once they got Detmer from Cleveland, it was only a matter of time before Charlie ended up on the bench. He'll be a backup QB for some other team next season (which is appropriate for his level of talent -- he's not good enough to start in the NFL).
Detmer's obviously not the answer either. Whoever thought a 10 year veteran backup QB would solve all the offensive woes of this team was fooling himself.
I have now downgraded my Lions prediction to 3-13 (from my original 7-9).

I predicted 6-10 for the Mighty Bears this year, and after this week's win over the Vikings I still think that's about right.

How about Akili Smith? He sure appears to be a bust. I remember last year when Smith beat Tim Couch and the Browns in an early game that several Bengals were commenting how the Browns should have drafted Smith instead of Couch. In other words, it is early folks.

We'd rather have Mitchell than Akili Smith. We are used to booing Mitchell, so we could start right away. With Smith, we would probably have to wait until at least the second quarter before the booing could begin.
