I've had my eye on this baby for four months. It looks amazing, is it worth the 50 notes? I either buy this or take my girlfriend out to dinner and a club! [IMG]

No, it's not. Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr. McLaren.

Having just read the S&V review of Anthology, where the author is speechless (make that "wordless") over the 5.1 mixes, I am very, very tempted.

Then again, I am normally am 180 degrees out of phase with Ken Richardson's viewpoint (he was luke warm on DSOTM, for example, and thought Linkin Park was the greatest thing since sliced bread).

But $60 for 40 full length 5.1 Beatles tracks, including I Am the Walrus and A Day in the Life sure sounds very, very enticing.

    @ Ricardo,
Last time I checked The Beatles split up 33 years ago yet still generate more money than most of todays acts Mr C, perhaps the water in Venezulaaaaa is spiked, hence your rather strange comment! [IMG]

    So whats coming "in" then?

It is good, especially for a fan of the group. At the price point it is a bargain. The 8 LD set originially listed for $229.95 and the VHS tapes original list was probably as much or more as the DVD set. If you are not a big fan of the group or are not interested in the history of the group then it might be something to skip.

As an avid Beatles fan, I have thoroughly enjoyed this boxed set. If you are interested at all in rock history, this is a must buy.

Craig, it was a reference to what a clueless Decca exec said to Brian Epstein upon hearing the band's demo: "Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr. Epstein".

And please, do try to get the spelling of my country's name right. It's no more complicated than say, Edinburgh [IMG]

If one is a Beatles fan and has a home theater then being without this set is inconceivable. It's a must-buy.

    Philip,

I have both and the DVD version is better, especially in the remastered audio. You may want to sell or give away the LD version: I did.

The audio is simply beautiful on this set. The picture quality is variable, but the promos, Help! clips, and Magical Mystery Tour clips are wonderful. Oddly, the Hard Day's Night clips are awful...so I'm guessing Miramax didn't let them use the remaster.

I agree with you Phil. You are basically hearing clips of songs for the most part. I had the LD set but never opened it (never got to watch it) and paid $35 for it (when they were blown out) and sold it for $50 (when I found out DVDs were on the way) and actually got the DVD set for free (plus something else) as I was given a $75 Amazon.com gift certificate for test driving a car (did not even have to drive it - just walked into the dealer and they put a stamp on a post card I got). Had it not been for that I would have been more than content with the LD set.
