During MGM’s Golden Age, few directors were as accomplished as Vincente Minnelli. Minnelli, of course, was one of the studio’s chief members of their Dream Factory lineup of musicals – An American in Paris (1951) and Gigi (1958) immediately come to mind – and also showed some great range in other film projects. One of his most prominent efforts outside musicals was The Bad and the Beautiful, a scorching look at behind-the-scenes Hollywood and the people who populate it. It's unbelievable that David Raksin's beautiful score did not receive an Oscar nod. One of the best dramatic scores of the 1950s!

Yeah, what an innings. What a bloke!

We really are spoiled for choice with great performances from him, so many, but this film would be perfect. Why do some (very few) actors have charisma to burn onscreen, while others just don't, it's an unsolvable
mystery that's annoyed Hollywood since the silent days.
