The finale of this was just shown last night here (After The Rose is next week); agree with everything said so far. Gwon, my guess is it's an assumption because Ian is (was?) an investment banker in NYC and they make pretty good money.
I have a different unrelated question: was Meredith's brother Matt in a Subway sandwich commercial/informercial? While on holiday in New Zealand, there was an ad where a speaker talked about losing a lot of weight, and indirectly how Subway sandwiches were healthier than, presumably, burger-type fast food. I could've sworn Matt (the brother) was the speaker (i.e. used to be fat and lost tons).
