The Avengers: The Cathy Gale Years

I already own the Emma Peel 16 -Disc DVD Megaset that was released by Lionsgate in Region 1 on 10/8/13, so I will be purchasing The Cathy Gale Years release. ViaVIsion previously released The Avengers: The Tara King Collection on Blu-ray on 11/29/23 but that release is out of stock.

Does any one know if VIaVisison ever released a DVD version of The Tara King Collection or another company that has released the Tara King Collection on DVD in either Region 1 or Region 4?

Certainly nothing in Region1. A&E released the Tara King season in five separate sets, but I don't know of any full season set.

You didn't ask about Region B Blu-rays, but there is one from StudioCanal:

Yes Via Vision did release the Tara King set last year. And its wonderfully region-free thankfully like many of their other releases. It also had all surviving Ian Hendry episodes in the bonuses.

I am going to grab the Tara King BD set from third party sellers for a bit of a hike (and pray they're legit). As for the Cathy Gale set, I guess considering the source material, a blu ray of the pre-Emma years is kind of pointless. I have the full A&E releases of these episodes, I'm wondering if I should bother with this.

It's actually missing one: Tunnel of Fear. They discovered that one back in 2016 and for some reason it was not on this set. Maybe because it's on the Emma Peel set.

I emailed ViaVision to confirm what format (NTSC or PAL) this release is in and if they will play in a Region 1 DVD player. Here is the response I received back: The discs for this set are in PAL format, and will safely play on a US DVD player.

Since I previously purchased Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Complete Series and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour: The Complete Series and both sets were in NTSC format, I assumed the Cathy Gale Set would also be in NTSC format.

I thought PAL discs do not play in Region 1 DVD Players.

LG is the only player that I know of that has PAL-NTSC conversion built in without having to Mod it.
Every ViaVision set that i have ever owned was region free and was able to be played on my players ( Sony Blu ray ) even though it said they were Region B or Region 4.
The Six Million Dollar Man & Bionic Woman from Turbine was region free but needed to have a PAL player even though it said it was Region B on the Box.
Hope this helps

Hmmm. Now that I think about it , my LG player may have done the same thing. It’s been over a year since I had it so my memories a little fuzzy
Frankie, thank you so much for your input! It is deeply appreciated.

I don't think I'm going to chance it on the ViaVision The Cathy Gale Years release and instead scour Ebay for the A & E Cathy Gale DVD sets to play it safe.

Thank you for everyone who responded to this thread for your input!

No worries, I don't blame you. I have their SeaQuest DVDs and they play fine on all of my players, but as soon as I get the set, I'll let you know for sure.
Cannot thank you enough for checking, Scott!

Scott, just wanted to check if your The Avengers: The Cathy Gale Years DVD Set from Via Vision arrived and if the discs play on Region 1 DVD players.

That's funny, I was coming on specifically to let you know. My set arrived an hour ago, it was bundled with the Man in a Suitcase pre-order, so it had to wait for that to ship out.

Yes they do. You'll have no trouble playing them.

Considering the source materials, they look pretty good, but I can see why no thought was given to making this a Blu Ray set.
