    To all,

The UK Blu-ray edition of The Avengers season 4 is now on pre-order at Amazon UK.
It is presented with seven discs: a good sign of quality.
    Release date: February 23, 2015.

    Witness the Blu-ray cover:

Season 4 was the first season with actress Diana Rigg as Emma Peel.
She replaced Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale and kept her black-leathered outfit.
Season 4 is in glorious black and white.

Some unique episodes appeared that season:
    "The Hour That Never Was"
    "Man-Eater of Surrey Green"
    "A Touch of Brimstone"
    "The House That Jack Built"

Presumably, a U.S. release will not be far behind.

As I (previously) said in the "other" THE AVENGERS (ABC 1966-69) discussion thread the black-and-white fourth season (1965-66) with Diana Rigg is widely considered this exceptional show's finest. Even without the latter advent of colour it was very well done.

Unfortunately just what is there in North America (Region A) to look forward to?

It's yet to have been done right. Unless some meticulously exacting outfit like Arts and Entertainment attempts it all over again with a superior quality certified correct edition with all the necessary audio and image technical adjustments down pat. Let's hope.

More power to (THE) AVENGERS fans in the U.K.

That picture has been photo-shopped beyond recognition. Let's hope they don't do the same thing on the disk.

Great news - I'll purchase when it comes stateside :) The UK cover art says a 3 disc set so either it is wrong or the Amazon listing that says 7 is wrong.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I think I'll wait for (hopefully) for a less expensive U.S. set. The U.K. price is a bit too steep.

    From an investigator:
"According to Studio Canal UK this set will contain 7 discs, not three (which would be very bad news...)
This was their reply to my inquiry mail about the release of series 4 on BD:

Sorry for the slow reply, I'm not actually working on this release.
We intend to release Series 4,5 and 6 on blu-ray.
    Series 4 - 7 discs
    Series 5 - 7 discs
    Series 6 - 9 discs
That is our intention at the moment..."

Good question--Did Lionsgate only buy the color S5, or are they provisionally waiting to see whether to acquire other seasons?

(And yes, the B/W S4 had its moments, although my own favorites are the original Cybernauts episode, and "The Quick-Quick-Slow Death", where the two go undercover at a suspicious dance class.)

    Hello all,

I'm currently watching and tasting this season 4 BD set and it's wonderful on the whole:

fine picture and audio quality--the sound is powerful--and features English subtitles.

I finished A Surfeit of H2O--from disc 3--featuring the cynical rain maker Dr. Sturm!

Mrs. Peel poses as a journalist and Steed pretends to be a big buyer of wine in order to infiltrate the factory.

Today, I will dive into Two's a Crowd with the doppelgänger of Steed.

Thanks, John for the report on the S4. Whether it is Lionsgate or whoever I really hope this makes its way Stateside, The S5 BD was a treat and I'd love to have the B&W Peels to complete the collection.

As a reminder, let's dive into season 4.

    THE FOURTH SEASON (1965-1966)

    producer Julian Wintle

    associate producer Brian Clemens

in charge of production Albert Fennell

    composer Laurie Johnson

    PRODUCTION RUNDOWN

It’s the intial season with Mrs. Emma Peel and it’s in black and white as in the previous seasons. Following her predecessor Cathy Gale, Mrs. Emma Peel introduces her black-leathered outfit in Death at Bargain Prices but things evolve from mid-season because she obtains a wide array of monochrome Swinging Sixties London Mod wardrobe that reflects her true “hip” identity thanks to costume designer John Bates working as Jean Varon who draws his inspiration from Op-Artist Bridget Riley and provides woman clothes in fifteen episodes. It’s a Wintle season and Brian Clemens and Albert Fennell are just “hired” second-in-command partners while the story level is top-notch, the leaning remains restrained and classic, except in “A Touch of Brimstone” (a later episode written by Brian Clemens). To give you a clue, picture Danger Man with a fantasy-oriented nature. Roy Ward Baker is the leading director of the season. The onscreen credits for “in charge of production” means “executive producer”. On the whole, this season represents the very flower of elegance and refinement.

I finally ordered the U.K. SEt today. I went region free a few years ago. Looking forward to this set!
I'll likely replace series 5 anchor batman set as well. Finally I would also like to pick up series 6 too.

It's too bad that more isn't not being done in the states to release the Saint, the persuaders and the avengers on blu ray.

So, is Season 4 region-free? Or do you just have a region-free player?

Did they port over all of the extras from the 50th set too?

I never owned the 50th set, so I can't be much help there. I had the A&E sets prior. What extras that are there I only watched once. Mostly excepts from missing first season episodes. Quick recaps with still photos. An early Diana Rigg BBC appearance. That's what I recall. I'm just blown away by the improved video and audio quality.

I just received my uk set (7disks) but they DO NOT play on my region free player I’ve been using for over ten years. Can’t figure out why these won’t play when all of my other uk disks play beautifully!! Does anyone know how to remedy this? Otherwise I’m like everyone else awaiting the USA release. Thank uou
