yeah, to paraphrase, he said 'people go to movies like they go to McDonald's - they want to know what they're getting'. so i guess Zemekis equates his films to cheap fast food. idiot.
for me, i think the movie goer lives vicarously through the main character. in the case of Astronaut Farmer, the main character didn't KNOW for sure he was going to be able to do it; therefore neither should the viewer.
in the case of Castaway, Hanks didn't know whether or not he gets off the island, therefore neither should the viewer. if Z was so preoccupied with the viewer knowing right off the bat, he should have done the whole movie as a flashback, with the end at the beginning.
