The black scuba watch looks great but it’s too small for me 🤯

And this is why I wanted multi day battery life.

This makes it a million times easier than pulling details from my CPAP and tracks with my recollection of micro bursts of waking up throughout the night. Will be good to be easily able to show my doc this data and maybe make some changes.

Ultra was supposed to show up today but then got word that it is delayed in delivery. Looking at tracking and checking with Apple it is somewhere between Shanghai and the U.S. Kind of bummed.

Let me start this post off by saying, and please pardon my French, that I can't BELIEVE I just spent $900 on a fucking watch. I've joined the club. It'll be here tomorrow and, coming from a well-used Series 6, I'm looking forward to being amazed. My only worry is that it'll be too big for my wrist.

Doug,

So you bought the ULTRA from what it sounds.

You have the same fear that every single other potential Apple Watch owner had before wearing the ULTRA.

Put ULTRA WATCH in a YouTube search and you'll be amazed at how many positive videos there are by people who were absolutely shocked at how well this watch fits their wrist.

That amazement is shared by me as well.

That Series 6 you are currently wearing? It's a toy. I promise that will be your opinion within a day or two after you slip on the ULTRA. The ULTRA looks and feels like a real watch. I think it surprised everyone.

Thanks for bucking me up with your comments, Ron! Yes, I bought an Ultra with the black/gray Trail Loop band. Actually, my wife got it for me as a Christmas present, so I won't get my hands on it until next Sunday. I'm looking forward to checking it out, and in the meantime, I'll take your suggestion and go watch a few Youtube reviews. Glad to hear that you like yours so much!

Well guys, I've had the Ultra on my wrist for three days now and I must admit that I'm pretty impressed with it. While I was a bit worried about its bulkiness, and it does sit pretty large on my wrist, I think it looks great. Ron, you were quite right about it making the standard Apple Watch look like a toy! I restored a backup from my old Series 6 to the Ultra without issue and had it up and running in short order. The display is beautiful and I love the extra real estate. The Trail Loop band is just right for me, although the Ocean band is nice as well, just a bit on the bulky side.

However, one of the best things about the Ultra is its battery life, and so far my experience has echoed that of others. My initial full charge lasted 72 hours!! I didn't do any major workouts during those three days, but I did play with the watch quite a bit and am super happy with this first battery test. I had the always-on display disabled since I don't like it, and I'm sure that helped. Even though I've gotten into the habit of charging my Series 6 every morning it will be very nice not having to follow that schedule any longer.

So yeah, it's super expensive, but I love the watch!

Doug,

So happy to read your thoughts. I didn't doubt for a second you would be happy.

Since I sleep track, I do find about 1-2 hours during the day to charge my watch.

You bought the Ocean band? That's the one I have. It's bulky compared to the trail band, certainly, but not as bulky as I had anticipated it to be. It's also very comfortable to wear.

Good luck with the Ultra. Again, I was really happy to read your positive comments.

Thanks, Ron. I think it's a winner. So far the only real drawback I've found is that it takes a LOT longer to charge from almost empty than my Series 6 did, which makes sense given the higher capacity battery. And yes, I picked up an Ocean band to try out along with the Trail band that came with the watch. I think you're right about the Ocean, and perhaps my perception of how bulky it is is has something to do with how low-profile the Trail is. Both are nice, but neither is worth the outrageous $100 price tag Apple charges. ;)

BTW, what are you using for a sleep-tracking app?

It's sickening what Apple charges for bands. The only positive I can say about their bands is that they outperform the cheaper third-party ones. Apple's bands have lasted me years, through washes and general abuse/sweat. Can't say that for the clones I bought off of Amazon.

As far as a sleep tracker, I am using an app called AUTO SLEEP. It's highly rated. Works well. I looked up the price on the App Store and I can't find it since I own it. However, it's a one-time purchase. Supposed to be cheap and no subscription (which is important).

Check out the reviews for the app on the store. I haven't found a bad one through the initial look I made based on recent reviews.

Re: Watch bands, I *love* my monoloop band! Worth the premium. It fits perfectly. Snug, but not too tight. Made of silicone it’s perfect for fitness, but looks good enough to wear everyday.

If you want affordable, fashionable bands, Fossil sells a Watch adapter for its watch bands. I picked up new leather bands for my mechanical watch and also Apple Watch on sale for like $25 each.

I have the Ultra with the Midnight Ocean band. I notice that the underside of my wrist gets a bit red and irritated from it. Thinking of picking up a cloth based band.

Hey guys- I’ve been considering upgrading my Apple Watch Series 4 to the Ultra 2. I had not been in a big hurry as my Series 4 is still working, except the ECG feature stopped working a year into ownership.

i really like the new features on the watches from the year before the Ultra was even announced such as the pulse ox. But I see now in the Apple Insider news app/site that a lawsuit against Apple over the how the pulse ox is read on a wearable will cause Apple to stop importing the watch. From what I read, a company called Masimo has the technology and sued Apple for copyright infringement. So sales on the Apple site will stop on December 21 and on December 24th at the Apple Stores.

So I’m debating if I should do it now, because the ban could go on for sometime.

No telling how long this will last. Apple does not want to lose sales of their new, high-profit watches. Presumably they will work to resolve it fast.

But if you want a new watch, this is the best time to buy one. And there’s no difference in buying one today compared to waiting until June 2024. No new models until roughly this time next year.
