Good luck

Yeah, by all indications, there should be no problem picking up an Ultra at the Apple Store this weekend.

I have been reading that stores are already open in Germany and after a few hours there is plenty of stock on hand for walk-ins.

That being said, there is a downside. I don't get the band I want. Currently, the trail band is not available for store pickup since it is 8-10 weeks on backorder.

This essentially means if I get a watch this weekend (as opposed to waiting another 4-5 weeks), I am eventually going to have to spend an additional $100 for the band I want.

In the end, more worth it to get the watch this weekend. Will keep anyone who cares posted. :)

So, been doing a lot of reading that seems to confirm this...

The display on the Ultra is no bigger than the Series 7/8. This seems to be confirmed by new owners.

This is even more concerning...

Text on the ULTRA can't show all the information that it does on the Series 7/8 (compare full name at top of text screen)

The scaling is different between the two. On the left, with the regular watch the bubble on the bottom left is larger along with the iMessage field than on the Ultra in the right. The … in the navigation bar text is likely due to the inset being used. By inset I mean padding being used around the left and right borders which reduces the width and causes the text control to elide the text.

I am not overly concerned by this but there seems to be a wealth of debate as to whether anyone wanting the benefits of a larger screen is actually going to receive it. As I pointed out, though a few reviews say the screen is larger, I am reading posts from early owners who say it isn't.

Just going to have to see for myself.

Made my decision between the two watches. Went with the Alpine Green as Sam Posten has.

Still have both watches on order to pick up tomorrow. Going to wait to look at both bands in the store to make a decision.

It’s best to judge them yourself in person. I was just doing a comparison based on what I see as a developer. Also the Ultra watch screen appears to be flatter and not rounded at the edges.

I’m not convinced the alpine green will be my final strap either. Lots of interesting choices including the black metal mesh and black soft fabric strap I have

Sam, as someone who is retired and doesn't have much else to do, I have been spending the morning looking at new owner videos and reading many comments. All are very favorable toward how well existing straps work with the Ultra.

Congrats on your new watch which you should be receiving any hour.

Again...as I have been reading posts all over the Internet...

This was a very unusual launch for Apple. More people were able to walk into an Apple store today and get an Ultra than it seemed were getting it delivered.

There was an abundant amount of stock in stores at launch with all of the bands and colors available outside of the trail which could not be found anywhere.

It’s the most comfortable band I’ve ever worn and I think the watch case itself is more comfortable on me because it’s so big.

What I find curious is if there is a lot of stock available for the Ultra for walk-ins at the store I would have expected my order to move up some. I have had that once or twice in the past so maybe it will happen again.

Robert,

From what I am reading, while a few orders have moved up, most have not. If you went with a trail band, definitely not.

I don't know what band you ordered, but would it make sense for you to go online, check your local Apple Store and pick it up today?

I just checked my local Apple store and they still have all the Ultras and band combinations (sans trail) in stock and ready to be picked up today.

It's pretty amazing to see this much stock available in the store on launch weekend.

A friend had his Ultra on last night so I got a minute to look at it. Very nice looking; great orange action button. Giant screen. He claims he’s going to resume scuba diving to use it. None of us believe him. 😆

The bigger screen with simply bigger everything would be practical for me, but it’s pretty boring from UX and Technology and Design perspectives.

Picked mine up yesterday.

After wearing every single Apple Watch released (all stainless steel), this is the first watch that feels like a real watch should.

And I am very surprised to be saying that. I was very worried that the Ultra would be too large on my small wrists but it actually looks fine -- like a watch should look on one's wrist. The 45mm watches seem like toys compared to the Ultra.

Additionally, the one strap I swore I would not buy was the Ocean. However, over the past few days, after reading a considerable amount of positive comments about the strap on various forums, I decided to pick it over the Alpine. Best choice I could have made. The ocean band is very comfortable and not nearly as chunky as the product photos suggest. It goes on and off quite easily and if I ever choose to wear this watch in the water, I now have a band that will handle the elements.

Still have not worn this for a full day so I can't comment on battery life, though I am reading that it exceeds Apple's estimations. As far as the display is concerned, it's not noticeably larger though it does give the sense of having more real estate in the way graphics are displayed. I think the flat face design (over the rounded corners) makes for a better viewing experience.

Unfortunately I didn't have time yesterday as I was at Yankee Stadium hoping to see Judge tie or break the record. That didn't happen. Today. have a whole lot of family coming over here for a barbecue.

Glad You got your watch Ronald!
