Does anybody know whether the film by John Wayne "The Alamo" is released in other regions without the 26 minutes cut from the film? Also, how is the quality?

The Region 2 and (from what others have said) Region 4 versions are exactly the same as R1 in that they are not the extended version. I have the extended version on VHS which I will have to hang onto until (and if) we get the longer restored version on DVD.

Turner Classic Movies broadcast the extended version of the Alamo on Saturday and I recorded it onto a DVD-R. I haven't watched it yet but after finalizing the recording to DVD-Video I looked at the first few chapters and they looked pretty good. I have experienced excellent results recording from DirecTV, TCM and the Fox Movie Channel, to DVD-R. I am recording on a Samsung DVD R3000 and a Panasonic E30. DVD-R / DVD-RAM recorders.
