I have serious doubts that it will be rectified at all.

I'm a little more optimistic - I think the physical media release date will be the impetus that gets everything rectified, as setting up the digital code redemptions on the platforms will be the opportunity to fix the mapping for how the title is meant to redeem.

If I bought The Abyss and redeemed through Movies Anywhere, do I have 4K Theatrical if I play back in MA, and also 4K SE if I playback through AppleTV Movies? Or is the 4k version locked to the service you redeemed with first?

And do you know if this is the end state? Or are the streamers still working to make 4K versions of Theatrical and SE both available for those who bought the Theatrical release on launch?

They got a bunch of middle-aged people to buy a digital movie, something they're not prone to do, and they completely screwed it up. So people who could have been won over to use their disposable income to buy more digital versions, are instead frustrated and taught that digital movies are more trouble than they're worth. This is so weird that they screwed it up to start and that they didn't fix it in the first week.

The correct product configuration was intended to be both cuts of the film included as part of a single purchase, each available in 4K UHD. It does not appear that it has been resolved yet.

I have serious doubts that it will be rectified at all.
Vudu, believe it or not, is the closest to being “correct,” with the SE’s of both Aliens and The Abyss now in 4K DV and DD+ 5.1 included under special features.

March 12th will be here soon enough. The industry as a whole doesn’t inspire a great deal of optimism based on their incompetence and general lack of good customer service when it comes to the digital home video format.

I can’t disagree with that. I don’t know how you solve that problem longterm because as far as all of the storefronts are concerned, each title is just an interchangeable widget, all that matters to them is how many things they sell, not which specific things, and the studios don’t make enough on any one title either to keep up with QCing it all.

Tinkering with this movie on digital continues. I purchased this from Apple the day it went on sale.

I only have one listing in Movies Anywhere now and it's for the SE in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. I no longer have the theatrical on MA.

On Vudu I only have one listing now as well. It's for the SE, which noted above is in Dolby Vision but 5.1 only. The theatrical is available as a bonus and that is DV and Atmos.

Apple defaults to the SE in DV and DA. The theatrical remains HD and 5.1.

This is a mess. I'll stick with the disc.
I’m luckier than you. I also purchased The Abyss from Apple/iTunes and I eventually got access to both versions in Movies Anywhere and Vudu.

Have you looked at Movies Anywhere recently? Mine only shows the SE and when I click on it it says I might be interested in the theatrical, which is no longer in my MA library.

I bought Aliens for $5 from Apple. As it's an MA title, I've checked it out on MA and Vudu. I'm pleased to say the SE of Aliens on Vudu is DV and DA.

Yes, Vudu finally fixed the Aliens SE, even under special features. Now they just need to get The Abyss SE fixed.

Any
For me it only works on the Vudu app on Firestick 4Kmax

Only wondering because that’s the only way I can get Aliens to work properly.

I’ve been streaming the SE on my 9th gen iPad (4K UHD code redeemed through Movies Anywhere and streamed through the AppleTV+ app). It looks and sounds fine but it had been so long since I watched this movie that I’d forgotten what a boring slog it is. What seemed like three hours in and I still had an hour and a half to go when I turned it off a few minutes ago.

Eight months since this was released on digital, and this Movies Anywhere title is STILL not porting over to Google TV/YouTube.

Are there really all that many people who uses those for watching movies bought/redeemed via Apple/iTunes or Vudu/FaH?

I never even remotely consider using those at all for my purchases/redemptions -- I didn't even realize YouTube participates... and have never even touched GoogleTV at all...

I did finally just buy The Abyss on 4K digital w/ the current sale though -- I don't like it enough to own the disc (mainly because of that awful ending), especially since its price may never get all that low...
