Wow, great news! This is the season for which a simple move to Monday nights brought Gunsmoke another 3 million viewers and a return to top ten status at number 4 in the Nielsens...a lot of fine episodes in this season's run...the much loved Christmas episode "Baker's Dozen"...the two parter "Vengeance" with John Ireland, James Stacy, Morgan Woodward, Paul Fix, Royal Dano and Kim Darby..."Stranger in Town" with Pernell Roberts, Jacqueline Scott, R. G. Armstrong and Henry Jones..."Death Train" with Dana Wynter and Morgan Woodward..."The Victim" with Beverly Garland and James Gregory..."Deadman's Law" with John Dehner..."Mr. Sam'l" with Ed Begley and Mark Richman..."A Noose for Dobie Price" with Chill Wills and Shug Fisher...Victor French, Gene Evans, Chill Wills and Jack Elam make multiple appearances this season... Mark Lenard, Nehemiah Persoff, Carrol O' Connor, Ralph Bellamy, Anthony Zerbe, Denver Pyle, Harry Carey Jr., Richard Mulligan, Jon Voight, Lou Antonio, John Saxon, John Astin, Lew Ayers, Forrest Tucker, Jim Davis, Michael Constantine and Warren Oates also appear in this season's 25 episodes...Steve Raines from Rawhide, Dick Peabody from Combat!, and Larry Pennell from Ripcord too...and Buck Taylor joins the cast as Newly...We're now up to 463 Gunsmoke episodes on DVD, not including the "50th Anniversary" and "Director's Collection" compilations...whew! But more, please...

As has been said many times in the past by many, I have to take some credit for this announcement having just ordered the German season 13 release late last night, along with seasons 14 and 16 to complete my Gunsmoke collection (will now have 13 through 20 from Germany). I put in a cancellation for just season 13, but will see if it takes since it is already in pre-shipment status. I'm fine either way since they were only $13 US each shipped. I also already have Bonanza season 9 through 13 from Germany (not interested in season 14 with no Hoss). If CBS US continues I can always wait and pick them up later on sale. Otherwise, I'm good moving forward. I was a bit concerned before of the PAL speedup issue with a show and characters I know quite well, but I recently rectified that with my Hitchcock Hour PAL release, which lead me to go ahead and pickup these remaining seasons now.

Finally, the long wait is over! After this, only 7 more seasons (a.k.a. 14+ years) to go. But at least now there's a bit more hope for further releases. I'd started to think Season 12 would be the last we'd see in Region 1.

When and if Gunsmoke reaches the end in the individual seasonal volumes, and subsequently sometime later puts out that condensed all-in-one that has been done for many CBS-owned series lately, how do you think it will be done? Will it be 4 cases of 5 seasons each, or 5 of 4 each?

Also, hoping the tradition continues that on release day Walmart has each volume in-store for $20 each.

Great! I am really looking forward to Season 13 since it's Newly's first year in Dodge City. The cast would be stable (as would the ratings!) until the departure of Amanda Blake in the spring of 1974. Personally I'd like to forget Season 20!

This is the best TV on DVD news so far this year. Hopefully we will also get Season 14 at the end of the year and then we will have a glimmer of hope for the series to be completed. Now bring on Bonanza Season 9.

I think if that ever happens it will be in 3 sets: The Half hour Black and White, The 1 hour Black and White and the Color episodes

That's awesome news. I really hope that CBS will finish the series one day. The same hope goes for Bonanza.

    Thanks for the info!

They have already started doing this. I just bought re bought seasons 1-4 and seasons 5-7 in 2 slimmed down cases. Saw them at Walmart, saved me some space and for the price I was able to sell my individual volumes to cover the cost.

Actually, I happened to see that too, both of them-- I think that as more seasons' worth are released, there will be more of these.

It's cool that they're doing this, but the cover artwork is just horrendous. I'd rather have the individual sets.

    Thanks for sharing though.
