I've been streaming iTunes to an AX connected to my stereo downstairs for over a year without a SINGLE hiccup - except when I nuke something in the microwave. I suspect I could cure that by getting a longer cable and moving the AX, but I'm too damned lazy.

I think you just need to give it some time, Eric. It is a bit of a lifestyle change but the rewards outweigh any problem or bump in the road.
