You can figure out who that other 3 letter sub company is.
The company rolled it out at the HE 2006 show, along with another new product, a mid subwoofer. The new bookshelf has a 6.5 inch ported woof and a horn tweeter with projected price of $125, availability, likely by the Holidays.
Apparently they are going for a sort of 3 way system. Bookshelf crossed over at 80Hz, mid woofer to handle ~50 HZ region and their top of the line sub for the really deep stuff.
If you can picture the Velodyne DD1812, the mega-buck sub from that venerable company, it might give some idea of what *** is thinking. The 1812 has an 18 inch driver combined with a 12 inch driver in one large cabinet. This beast goes for $10K-$13K.
*** is apparently trying to offer a similar approach that would require two boxes, but cost perhaps $1,500.
Back to the new bookshelf. Unfortunately, the ever popular other company, (the one that makes the 20-39PCi that I own), did not have a display at CE 2006. It sure would have made for an interesting comparison.
Mods, as always, if you have a problem with this post, please just delete it.
Thanks
